Kate Middleton and others having an unexpectedly ‘better’ Christmas than usual…

Sooo, no disrespect to HM, but with smaller numbers/less obligations who has found they are having a better or ‘easier’ Christmas than usual?
Just thinking of Kate who can wear her loungewear instead of formal gear, let Carol take over the kitchen (like only a mother can), Mike can help George assemble the Lego Death Star and the kids can ride their bikes all day… Wills can do piggybacks up and down the hall…
Anyone else having an easier time without the travel?

Well, it's easier, but it's shitter.

crazyjinglist · 24/12/2021 18:27

For me, a better Christmas is spending it with more family members. I have no desire to spend Christmas in loungewear - I could do that every weekend!

EllieSattler · 24/12/2021 18:28

I've had to cancel my travel plans at short notice for the second year in a row and believe me I'd rather be trailing exhausted hyper children through the airport and shoving gifts into a too-small suitcase.

BiscuitLover3678 · 24/12/2021 18:28

Agreed

Theremoresefulday · 24/12/2021 18:28

Nope. The less travel means I don’t get to see my eldest. So no from me.

Theremoresefulday · 24/12/2021 18:29

Like @EllieSattler this is the 2nd year in a row.

ArblemarzipanTFruitcake · 24/12/2021 18:31

No, I'm missing my family, like others, for the second year in a row Sad.

stalkersaga · 24/12/2021 18:31

I hatey hate hated having to stay at home with "my little family" last year. I love a big extended family Christmas. It's what makes Christmas for me.

PamDenick · 24/12/2021 18:32

Ok, point taken. Inspired by the threads of those who DONT like being guests, or don’t really understand the in laws way of doing things, there’s a chance that SOME people are going to have an ‘easier’ Christmas…

I reckon the Royal christmas is usally a blast. Understandable if yiundont likenyour relatives and/or they don't know how to entertain but I bet a Sandringham Christmas is fun.

Everything worth doing tales a bit of effort, life shouldn't always be about easy.

WorraLiberty · 24/12/2021 18:32

(like only a mother can)

WTF??? Grin

Daft comment aside (because my DH does all the Xmas cooking), we've been enjoying more relaxing Christmases since our DC grew up and it's lovely.

MaryAndHerNet · 24/12/2021 18:34

Christmas is what you make it.

If you don't like big christmas with tons of family, have a smaller one with fewer.

Some people like big Christmases and enjoy the hubbub and fuss so will find restrictive, smaller Christmas a bit of a sad time.

I prefer being alone, so a Christmas on my own is my preference. This year, it's just me and my kid. No drama, no fuss, no guests.
Perfect for me.

RoyalFamilyFan · 24/12/2021 18:41

I don't think a Sandringham Christmas is fun. The kids are sent away with nannies for a start for lots of it, including the meal.
My father has tested positive with covid, so our plans are off. Had to go out today and buy food. Really fed up.

I'm not sure they all like their relatives!

My DH does all the cooking too but if Kate Middleton is going to ‘allow’ anyone to take over in the kitchen, whilst she enjoys a less formal Christmas, it would be Carol not Camilla? And Kate can enjoy being with the kids instead of the black tie affair…

Surely it should be her sister? She's the one with all the hot party tips.
MrsLeclerc · 24/12/2021 18:47

I bet Kate is thrilled to have a Christmas more like her childhood ones. If we feel on edge at the in laws I can’t imagine what it would be like there! Also nice for her family to have to have the day with them. As like you say, as lovely as a Christmas in a palace with the Royal Family might be, sometimes a low key day can be wonderful in a different way.

I feel a bit sorry for the Queen though as it’s her first year without her husband and now she’s having less family there than in previous years.

Theremoresefulday · 24/12/2021 18:48

Why would you think this anyway?

It is SHIT not being able to see family.

My eldest is a medic and he has been in the middle of this due to his job all the way through. I wanted him to come home, with his partner, and relax and get spoilt and have some down time.

And yes, selfishly, I wanted to see him. I haven’t seen him since the summer where we had a socially distanced meet up in his garden. I want to hug him.

What the hell is actually wrong with that?

EllieSattler · 24/12/2021 18:57

Sandringham Christmas looks awful so Kate probably is having a better Christmas, but I'm not.

The people who have lovely Christmases don't post. What value is there in me coming on here to say I can't wait to see my family, you can't beat my mums stuffing, the younger kids all get along so beautifully, the teenage relatives are an absolute pleasure to be around, my dad has been unwell and was going to get a great boost by seeing the grandkids? None really, but it is would have been true :(
Theremoresefulday · 24/12/2021 19:02

On the face of it my Christmas will be easier.

It’s still shit.

time2tork · 24/12/2021 19:05

To be honest, I doubt they wear loungewear. They Middletons come across as a bit posh, I bet they make the effort to dress up on Christmas Day.

Does anyone know them ask? I genuinely want to know now 😂

PS I really like Kate! She was born to be a Princess / Future Queen 👑

EatSleepRantRepeat · 24/12/2021 19:10

I'm still laughing that anyone thinks they won't have a chef working on Christmas day, given they're Royals and Pippa is a billionaire by marriage...

Aderyn21 · 24/12/2021 19:10

It's probably an easier Christmas for all the poor sods who work at Sandringham, who usually have to facilitate all this!

DrSbaitso · 24/12/2021 19:10

To be honest, I doubt they wear loungewear.

Naked Royal Christmases.
