Kate Middleton and others having an unexpectedly ‘better’ Christmas than usual…

Sooo, no disrespect to HM, but with smaller numbers/less obligations who has found they are having a better or ‘easier’ Christmas than usual?
Just thinking of Kate who can wear her loungewear instead of formal gear, let Carol take over the kitchen (like only a mother can), Mike can help George assemble the Lego Death Star and the kids can ride their bikes all day… Wills can do piggybacks up and down the hall…
Anyone else having an easier time without the travel?

I am trying to imagine the Middleton women in lounge wear for Christmas.. Nope don’t think that happens.

PamDenick · 24/12/2021 19:23

Do t get me wrong I LOVE Kate (and the queen) but being in orfolk with her side of the fa
Ily might be a little … more relaxed…

@EatSleepRantRepeat yes I agree of course they will have a chef. Plus a nanny.

ThePlumVan · 24/12/2021 19:24

Im loving a quiet xmas so I’m with you on that OP, but I don’t think for a minute that Kate slaves over a hot cooker any other day.
And don’t forget she has a huge team of people getting her (and her kids!) ready in the morning- it’s hardly a hardship Grin

SilverGlassHare · 24/12/2021 19:25

I’m having a bigger than usual Xmas - the inlaws were going to their other son for Xmas (as was their plan last year, sadly cancelled due to restrictions), then one of his kids tested positive so they’ve come to us instead. We have one of my parents too. Luckily I love my inlaws.

Kshhuxnxk · 24/12/2021 19:31

Nope, sad christmas again :(

DaphneDeloresMoorhead · 24/12/2021 19:32

@Aderyn21

It's probably an easier Christmas for all the poor sods who work at Sandringham, who usually have to facilitate all this!
I don't think they are forced at gunpoint to work there.
DillDanding · 24/12/2021 19:42

Christmas is business as usual for us. We’re still hosting a large group and we’ve seen loads of friends this week and have more get togethers planned next week.

‘Take over the kitchen like only a mother can’ made me laugh. I don’t set foot in our kitchen. My husband does it all.

RoyalFamilyFan · 24/12/2021 19:45

@DaphneDeloresMoorhead they did refuse last year to isolate from their own families so the Queen could have a big family Christmas. As a result it was a small affair last year.

Bunnyfuller · 24/12/2021 19:51

What part is ‘easier’.

All the issues with guests or being guests are negated for them anyway with all their staff. The awkward eaters, the 23 cups of tea, early risers, late risers, large eaters/drinkers/bathers.

If I had staff to cook and wait on everyone and oodles of rooms, land and bathrooms, you could all fucking come for Christmas

Didn’t the Queen stay at Windsor with Prince Phillip last Christmas?

Hearwego · 24/12/2021 19:58

An old work colleague had a pub in Berkshire, the Middletown were regulars.
Until Kate and William married that is, they couldn’t really go there after that with all the press and fuss it would cause.

RoyalFamilyFan · 24/12/2021 19:59

@PolarBearYumYums yes, but that was not the original plan. It was in the newspapers.

BertieBotts · 24/12/2021 20:01

I would have loved to travel this Christmas as we haven't seen our families in 2 years and I lost a family member about a year ago so it feels wrong to be apart.

But I have a 3yo, a 4mo and a newly 13yo. The 3yo's excitement is incredibly infectious, I'm still in the hormone besotted phase with my last baby and the eldest is great company, so in general I'm feeling pretty happy and grateful for our awesome little family. Would have been the cherry on the cake to come for Christmas but at least the five of us are together.

The newspapers you say! That will be true then.

EmmaWoodhousestreehouse · 24/12/2021 20:10

@WorraLiberty

(like only a mother can)

WTF??? Grin

Daft comment aside (because my DH does all the Xmas cooking), we've been enjoying more relaxing Christmases since our DC grew up and it's lovely.

I agree. Our children are adults now. Our Christmas is relaxing and low key. Much more enjoyable.
Malibuismysecrethome · 24/12/2021 20:20

I wouldn’t mind trying a Royal Christmas as long as I could bring my tribe with me Wink

HelloBunny · 24/12/2021 20:38

We’ll be at home in our onesies. Seeing family on Boxing Day. Looking forward to chilling out...

TheFairyCaravan · 24/12/2021 20:44

My Christmas is going to be easier because one of my sons is deployed on an operational tour with the army and the other, and DDIL, is working in the hospital because they’re nurses.

I would give everything to have them here. Having your loved ones around you at Christmas time is a privilege.

LadyTiredWinterBottom2 · 24/12/2021 20:56

Flowers to those missing their loved ones.

We don't participate in travelling in Christmas day. Our families irritate us both no end, for different reasons. We always stay at home by ourselves where no one can fuck us off.

lightisnotwhite · 24/12/2021 21:05

I think there’s a difference between what parents think of as a lovely Christmas and what the young families like…

I agree about Kate. Having to do stuff at Christmas is what makes it special but also nice when it stops.

Fizbosshoes · 24/12/2021 21:12

Growing up my mum was very protective of Christmas just being our immediate family (4 of us)
As kids once presents were done, it was basically like any Sunday (with slightly better tv) We much preferred visiting relatives and playing board games with family we didn't see very often.

We nearly always see extended family at Christmas (barring last year of course - which was actually still v enjoyable) and if I ever ask my DC what the best thing about Xmas is, they never mention presents, it's always about who we see even the older relatives who mainly just nap

SleepingStandingUp · 24/12/2021 21:16

I'm sure Kate is enjoying being with her parents and siblings rather than her in laws as much as most people do, presuming the family gets on well.

SpanielsAreMyLife · 24/12/2021 21:20

Christmas with HM sounds horribly formal...... all that changing outfits, and time dictats. I'm imagine that Kate is very relieved to have her family around them instead...... although I still think she'll be up at 5am, going for a run and then appearing in a drop dead gorgeous dress and bouffant blowdry while the staff have prepped the lunch and got the kids sorted out. I can't ever imagine her doing loungewear Grin
