We opened it to cook it and it's absolutely off. 2 days left until expiry. Stinks to high heaven. DH double wrapped it, binned it and scrubbed the baking tray he put it on. Obviously we have to find something else to eat now 🙄

Oh no! This happened to us twice - once with a Christmas turkey and once with a leg of lamb for Easter. Hope you find something else.

Some supermarkets are open until 7. I'd get in the car and see what you can find - maybe some bargains to be had!

GuckGuckDoose · 24/12/2021 17:47

This has always been my experience of Lidl meat sadly. Goes off SO quickly. Haven’t had much luck with Aldi either. Don’t count myself as a supermarket snob at all, but I’ve given up doing a ‘proper shop’ in either partially for this reason.

Greydogs123 · 24/12/2021 17:47

Gutting. Our local co-op had loads of meat and other stuff still, so if you’re close to a supermarket I’m sure you’ll be able to get something.

Redshoeblueshoe · 24/12/2021 17:48

I was in Lidl 2 hours ago, loads of bargains

TowandaForever · 24/12/2021 17:48

I would have taken it back or taken pictures of it and tweeted them to get my money back.

Chunkymenrock · 24/12/2021 17:49

Yes, definitely get a refund. Its completely unacceptable.

Hellocatshome · 24/12/2021 18:09

Last Christmas our pre ordered months in advance Christmas Eve Afternoon tea type thing that was due at 5pm cancelled at 4:30pm. We had fish and chips and everyone said it was their favourite Christmas Eve tea. It is disappointing but all is not lost, all the best Christmas stories usually start with a mishap of one sort or another.

Invasionofthegutsnatchers · 24/12/2021 18:20

Just found a stash of pigs in blankets in the freezer so we will be fine. I'm going to push fir a refund though and not get meat there in the future.

Supermarkets open until 7. Go and get something else and also let lidl know there is a problem rather than posting on mumsnet that you’ve chucked it in the bin.

ShirleyPhallus · 24/12/2021 18:27

But Lidl seems to be the answer to everything on here!

OP: “My leg has fallen off, should I go to A&E?”
Responses: “Have you tried Lidl? They always have what I want in there”

Sorry OP, supermarkets are still open now, hope you find something

Palavah · 24/12/2021 18:33

Take photos to support your refund (i have previously been asked to take some rancid chicken back to the shop. I was not going to subject the london transport network to that.)

AdoptDontShop · 24/12/2021 18:42

Maybe spend a bit more and buy meat that hasn’t been factory farmed.

Twice I bought the steak ribeye and fillet first one was bad took it back offered me two more for replacement that was also bad! 3 months later thought I’d give them another chance bought a ribeye and a fillet today, top of the range 25 day matured - absolutely horrible couldn’t eat it surely I’m not just getting bad luck I won’t buy meat from there again defo- I have made a complaint with pictures of the inedible steak - and we were so looking forward to it!
