Tips getting 5yr old off to sleep Xmas eve

Hi just read an article about getting kids off to sleep Xmas eve and wanted to see if anyone else has some tips. Since my daughter broke up from school she’s set up camp on the landing and doesn’t go to sleep until ten. She sleeps with her light on. I did take it out although I made the mistake of putting it back. She also has a lamp which I put a pink bulb in to try and get her to sleep. Thankfully I’m all sorted Xmas eve.Anyway I’ll be grateful for any tips.

Go out today and get her thoroughly exhausted so she can’t possibly stay awake past 8? We like swimming Christmas Eve as the pool is usually empty and it wears the kids out

Long walk Christmas Eve afternoon

I took my 5 year old to an indoor trampoline place and paid for a 2 hour session to wear him out a little!

Agree with PP, I'd be wrapping up warm and going for a bracing walk to look at Christmas lights on houses at around 4pm and wearing her out. That's what we're planning with our DS.

Sorry if I've misunderstood, do you mean she's camping on the landing waiting for Christmas? 😆 that sounds like something I would have done as a child, I once attempted to enter hibernation to make Christmas come sooner. But that won't be helping her sleep, if you do Santa I'd be telling her Santa insists on children sleeping in their beds.

Our plan is a big walk, long warm bath and cross fingers

Father Christmas cannot come into the house unless children are fast asleep in bed. That's why no one ever sees him. It's magic

We're in Australia and just put the "breaking news" Santa is on his way and kids need to go to bed on the TV (cast from YouTube). Little Miss 5 couldn't get to bed fast enough!

Walk back legs off and finish with a radox muscle soak bath.
