11-12yo boy - aftershave?!

Hi mumsnetters,

Me and DP usually give joint presents to DSS, but I thought this year (as it's been a tough year for all & he's had a tough transition to secondary school), id get him a little something just from me. Typically, it hasn't arrived and I'm stressing!!

DP earlier told me DSS has become a bit more interested in wearing DP's aftershave / cologne (?) so I thought I would try and pick DSS up some in boots tomorrow.

Trouble is, i have no clue what a 12yo (y.7) is into?! He's very into trends and whatever's on TikTok (asked us for Jordans for xmas, plays video games online with friends etc).

I don't want to get him a kiddy scent but don't want to go too grown up. For fear of sounding a thousand years old - what's cool?! BlushGrin

Any ideas would be super helpful!

I'm not sure how cool it is, but my daughter is the same age and she and all her friends are very into hollister, I'm sure they do aftershaves. Failing that, I'd go with whatever is deal of the week in Boots Confused

Mine is year 10 and it's all about ...

Dior eau sauvage
Cerruti 1881
Boss Bottled

So you probably won't go far wrong with any of those

Ah thank you! Do boys shop in hollister? I have very brief memories of girls loving it when I was a teen, but I can't remember if they sold boys clothes or boys liked it! Such a minefield!

Dior is pricey but the others are reasonably priced. Cerrutti probably best as it's a light scent so perfect for a younger teen/tween.

Mine hadn't even considered aftershave until about 3 months ago and now? Must own about half a dozen and is very in with all the cool brands so I doubt you'll go far wrong

My 11 year old likes this:

Mam of boys here and I agree with a previous poster dior sauvage, Jean paul , boss bottled..anything that smells fresh.these all have a nice smell and not too overpowering..they are popular with both my 14yr old and 19yr old.
Re: hollister my eldest used to be into thier clothes a few yrs ago but him and his friends don't wear them now.

daisyjgrey · 23/12/2021 22:53

Yes I'd go Sauvage or Boss. The dark greeny coloured Gaultier one is similar and on a par brand wise. They're all classics and he wont age out of them.

StrangeAddiction · 23/12/2021 22:56

I've just bought ds2 Ted Baker Man (blue box) for £6.99 from B&M. No idea what it smells like but I've got Ted Baker X20 woman and it's nice so I'm hoping its similar in that it's a light scent and not offensive Grin

mumof1879 · 24/12/2021 07:21

My 10yo has a boys kids one from Next.

MaryDoll84 · 24/12/2021 09:32

I've bought CK eternity and CK in2u him for my two (12 and 13). Both very reasonably priced for a big bottle and Calvin Klein scents always seem to be pretty inoffensive. I've heard CK shock is also quite popular with boys around that age. I personally wouldn't get anything as expensive as dior but that's coz mine literally douse themselves in any kind of spray😂

greenweepingwillow · 24/12/2021 10:51

I've got CK in2u for my 13 yr old. Mostly as it seemed reasonably priced and I'd read a couple of recomendations on here for it for younger boys.

mam0918 · 24/12/2021 11:29

DS has the classic Lynx Africa deoderant for daily spraying of his awkward teenage BO but for nicer events he has David Beckham aftershave (cant remember which one though).

Honestly at this age I wouldn't go too expensive, 'one in a million' or something would be overkill... something like David Beckham or Police is a good option.

TheSmallAssassin · 24/12/2021 11:40

I wouldn't spend a load of money on Dior or Boss for a 12 year old when you don't even know if he will like them or if they will smell good on him, definitely look at the more reasonable end, there are some other good suggestions on here.
