Sainsbury turkey cancellation

hufflepufferma · 23/12/2021 07:09

I ordered a turkey from Sainsburys to pick up tomorrow. I paid the £20 deposit and will need to pay the rest on collection. Our guests are no longer coming and I don't want to cook a big turkey just for the two of us. If I don't pick it up will I just lose my £20 deposit or will they charge me the full price?

Well, a deposit is generally non refundable.
Would you consider seeing if they had a smaller bird?
Perhaps cook it anyways and them freeze leftovers?

WhatScratch · 23/12/2021 07:17

’Can I cancel my Christmas order & get a refund for my deposit?
You can cancel your Christmas food order up until 11:59pm on the 10th December to get a refund for the deposit you paid. After this time we are unable to offer a refund. Follow the cancellation link in the confirmation email we sent you or click "Cancel order" at the bottom of this page.’

There’s a free helpline number on there

food-to-order.sainsburys.co.uk/help The cancel link is right at the bottom, on the grey background.

@WhatScratch - thanks but too late to cancel

@spotcheck - tbh I'd be ok to lose the £20 deposit rather than pay the extra £30 and have to deal with it. We're not huge turkey fans!

I just really want to know if they will be charging me the full price anyway if I don't pick up. If not then I'd not pick up and will accept I've lost the deposit.

It's not too late to cancel, it's too late to cancel and get your deposit refunded.
Follow the link @WhatScratch has kindly posted so the turkey won't be wasted.

hufflepufferma · 23/12/2021 07:49

@toomuchfaster Unfortunately I followed the cancel link and it just tells me it's too late to cancel and then tells me how to pick up!

When we got Christmas order last year you paid 20 deposit then paid for what was in bag at checkout so I would guess it's the 20£ you lose now if you cancel or amend but not 100% sure.

hufflepufferma · 23/12/2021 07:58

@Silkieschickens yes I'm hoping that's the case. I hoping they can't take the balance from my account unless I'm paying in person.

They might be able to change it if you contact the store

Theunamedcat · 23/12/2021 08:18

Go on Facebook see if you can "sell" your deposit someone might need a turkey

madisonbridges · 23/12/2021 08:25

I think the point of the deposit is that you lose that but don't get charged for the rest. The company doesn't lose money and they'll sell it on to someone else.

Grimchmas · 23/12/2021 08:37

Sainsburys Facebook messenger has really good customer service, I'd message them. Or ring the store. Or possibly both!

PersianStar · 23/12/2021 08:52

I deal with customer orders at a different supermarket.
Usually if you don’t pick it up, we would ring you to remind you. If you no longer wanted it we would just put it back on sale and you would lose your deposit. The earlier you contact them so they know, the easier it will be for them to sell it on.

hufflepufferma · 23/12/2021 09:08

Thanks to all who've replied. I've contacted sainsburys via Facebook- see if they reply... and I did ask around on our local WhatsApp group to see if anyone wanted it but no takers. I'm imagining I'm not the only one with cancelling guests this year!

I would try and contact them now so they can put it back on sale. Good luck!

Divebar2021 · 23/12/2021 09:11

Do you not have a number for Customer services? I’ve also found them pretty helpful.

bestbeforedateexpired · 23/12/2021 09:16

I would go in today and ask if I could swap it for a smaller bird or an alternative roasting joint. The £20 deposit comes off the total shopping bill at the end.

SleighbellsZ · 23/12/2021 09:20

I would ring them and ask to swap to a smaller bird. You'll get a quicker answer by ringing

BluebellsGreenbells · 23/12/2021 09:24

All the Sainsburys Turkeys were half price yesterday in store! Bit cheeky when some haven’t collected there’s yet. They go cheaper Christmas Eve.

IamGusFring · 23/12/2021 09:32

On my e mail from them it says - you cannot cancel your order or get a refund as your collection date is so close . They will keep your 20 pounds.

IamGusFring · 23/12/2021 09:35

I also got an e mail a few days ago with a voucher for the 20 pounds to scan at the till when you collect your food .

hufflepufferma · 23/12/2021 18:05

Thanks all for your help... phone line was amazingly straightforward... The answer is - if I don't pick up I only lose my deposit and it will get put on shelf to sell. Happy Christmas everyone!
