Has anyone else not realised they’ve ordered gifts being shipped from China?

Argh - not sure how I didn’t realise this but I ordered silk pillowcases as a gift for MIL and SIL. Went on the tracking thing today and saw that they have just cleared customs at Shanghai airport Blush they’re not going to get here on time are they? How could I not have noticed this?

@Spinachtastegud

Guys why don't next year make a special effort to support UK businesses instead of the tat from beyond. Most of what you'd buy would likely be more durable too.
Did you actually read any of the thread?

I thought that with Brexit we had taken back control and were now a global manufacturing hub. Why has this not happened, its been nearly a year.

Sounds like drop shipping. Most of the time you won't even realise until it arrives full of customs stickers and Chinese writing.

I ordered a fidget toy and mobility aid at the beginning of November and still haven't shown up... pretty sure they are coming from China and taking a long bloody time to do it too.

I just bought replacements and accepted they aren't coming, will be fun to see if they show up in January.

Well - I do order a heck of a lot from JL, M&S and other UK retailers. But like everyone I do shop around as well. I’ll just be more careful about doing so.
I ordered a strawberry tower and didn’t realise it came from China until it didn’t turn up. Fortunately I ordered my presents in mid October when I got paid as I was due to give birth early Dec and knew I would likely be induced early (so Nov pay day might be a bit close to the wire). It turned up just after I’d got home from the hospital having had DD but I was panicking in the hospital wondering what else I could get.

John Lewis isn’t a fail safe. We ordered DDs present and they sent the wrong thing. Obviously returning was easier as I just had to pop to Waitrose and we could get the replacement delivered next day but still a pain in the arse.

It's a Christmas miracle, mine had arrived in Sheffield yesterday evening but not moved since and so thought it would arrive after the day but it turned up this afternoon and is now wrapped and under the tree.

Mumsarockchick · 24/12/2021 15:32

I ordered from a 'local' Etsy handmade site, tracking number directed me to a delivery company in the Netherlands. After 3 weeks my parcel came directly from China.

DustyMaiden · 24/12/2021 16:38

Yes, Japanese kitchen knives. Didn’t realise they were coming directly from Japan.

Jinglemychristmasbells · 24/12/2021 17:22

I ordered dd a hoody with rabbit ears and was worrying it would not arrive in time but it come earlier talk about cutting it close. Need to wrap it up later.
Now I'm waiting on a few joke presents to come of Amazon says they will come by 9pm only ordered them last night.

Snoopsnoggysnog · 24/12/2021 17:22

Well - my Amazon prime emergency gift was crap. Then I remembered we have a lovely gift shop on our high st Blush popped down there this afternoon and got MIL a lovely pair of gloves and a beautiful photo frame for SIL. Lesson learned!
