Trimming the Christmas cake - will it keep?

I have never needed to do this before but I have just unwrapped the cake to marzipan it and it's decidedly wonky. If it were a normal sponge I would just trim the top and then ice as normal but before I do will this affect how long it keeps for? It is a rich fruit cake and has been maturing with regular feeding for about a month. The marzipan and icing will cover the cut edge.

We're just bumping this for the OP in case anyone's around to help!

No idea OP, but logically it wouod be no different than how long it keeps once a slice is cut out of it?

In fact better as the cut bit is would still be sealed in by the marzipan and icing?

'Course it will keep. Trim it and turn it upside down to a. seal it a bit and b. to reduce crumbing when you cover it and you will get a flatter surface
