Christmas cake crumbly top

I’ve already iced it so I don’t know why I’m asking really. I made my cake in November, same recipe and everything as every year. When I went to ice it, the top was paler than the rest and a bit crumbly. Had it just dried out or anything more sinister? Maybe I just didn’t wrap it properly or put the lid on the tin well.

I've never made one but do you not need to feed a Christmas cake for a few months? I always remember my gran feeding hers with brandy?

Just iced mine, have you been topping it up with booze, marzipan base?

Thanks for the replies!
Just lost my reply. I never feed my Christmas cakes and most of it is really moist it’s just a very fine top crumbly layer. Just hoping it isn’t a weird mould or something. I never need to feed them because I soak the fruit for a week in booze then slow cook the cake for 5 hours.

It’s probably just dried out a bit for some reason. Hopefully will be ok
