I never know what's too much or too little.
This year it's around £150 but I have a friend who spends a lot more.
What do you spend on them?

blueflowersinthesnow · 21/12/2021 11:12

It varies but about £170 this year.

Viviennemary · 21/12/2021 11:13

Nothing here too. He doesnt't want anything as he's got everything he wants. Boring! I always want stuff.

WhatDidISayAlan · 21/12/2021 11:18

Last year it was about £250 - I bought him a new 3 season sleeping bag so that we could camp over the summer; it's paid for itself already compared to having to pay hotel costs. This year it's only about £100 (Barbour wallet because his current one is literally falling to bits, bottle of nice Scotch, hankies, Ordinance Survey quiz book, toiletries, bike bell -specific request that one!) but we've each put £150 in a jar and we'll use that for our ad-hoc camping weekends in the Lakes in 2022.

WinterRose92 · 21/12/2021 11:21

Usually between £100 - £150. This year was £150 as I bought tickets to see a band he loves as his main present. The rest was small things.

SockFluffInTheBath · 21/12/2021 11:22

It varies according to income, generally works out about the equivalent of 1-2 days wages.

CrimbleCrumble1 · 21/12/2021 11:27

£200 this year, normally it’s a bit less

Cheeseycheeseycheesecheese · 21/12/2021 11:34

Varies year on year. His birthday is the week before Christmas, so I try to make his "bigger" present for then. This year I've spent £130 over the 2 days.

Squirrelblanket · 21/12/2021 11:34

We agree a budget which is normally in the region of £100-150.

Flaskfan · 21/12/2021 11:35

We used to do a token tenner gift, but you end up buying tat.

Lottle · 21/12/2021 11:37

Less than £20 on just stocking bits really. It's by choice rather than financial pressure.

Lifeispassingby · 21/12/2021 11:38

£0 as we have no money left after getting all the family presents, colleagues etc. We don’t buy birthday gifts or valentines either as we can’t afford to.

OfMinceAndMen · 21/12/2021 11:39

Yes about £150 each for us.

cheeseislife8 · 21/12/2021 11:40

For us it depends year to year, based on finances. Last year DH was furloughed and I was working pt around uni so it was less, this year with 2 full time wages we can afford to spend a bit more. Its never loads though

TheLovelinessOfBaublyDemons · 21/12/2021 11:40

Usually a tenner bc we're skint. He doesn't know what he wants yet.

Ruibies · 21/12/2021 11:43

Probably a couple of hundred, but he's a December birthday and we also celebrate our wedding anniversary this month, so total spend for December gifts is probably closer to £350+. We don't have any DC yet but I think this will change once we do.

WildStallyn · 21/12/2021 11:44

About £150. I'd say that's about typical for us but there have been years things were much tighter (buying house, SMP, redundancy) and I've just bought a token thing.

wheresmyshoe · 21/12/2021 11:45

It varies depending on whether he wants or needs something but it's unlikely to be more than £150, should he have his heart set on something more expensive then if we could afford it he would have it. This year he's run out of his favourite cologne so it's £110 plus £25 of food treats (things I don't eat). Last year a signed book from a favourite author was £25 and a new hat £15.

mam0918 · 21/12/2021 11:48

£100 altogether for DH (presents, stocking, PJs, gift from the kids etc...).

IKnowAPlace · 21/12/2021 11:50

I've spent over £400 this year but that's mainly on one big ticket item that he wants. Last year it was under £200.

I do find it easy to get carried away on extras

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 21/12/2021 11:51

About £150, but none of it is very exciting this year. A record, a book, a shirt, a hoodie, slippers, and some nice wool socks “from the cat”. I know he has spent more on me because he wasn’t working most of 2020/early this year (thanks, Covid) so he wants to make up for the missed Christmas and birthday presents and spoil me a bit.

SleepingStandingUp · 21/12/2021 11:52

About £100. Normally a bit less but saw tickets last minute for him

CherryRedDMs · 21/12/2021 11:56

No set amount, all money is shared so it’s not ever really one person spending on the other. Usually about 20 quid, once or twice 500, but it’s more about the thought. More typically we get token things then choose something for the house we both enjoy together.

DropYourSword · 21/12/2021 11:57

I truly have no clue how much I’ve ever spent on DH or DS!
I just get things for them I think they’d like. I don’t work to a budget. I think I’d find it ridiculous to ensure I hit some sort of spending target.
Like, are DH’s really sitting there calculating the cost of each gift and tallying up the total spend. I could not be arsed with that!

WineGetsMeThroughIt · 21/12/2021 11:58

We don't really set a budget. He's got a birthday bear Christmas as well, so I just buy a bunch of stuff and then assess closer to the dates what he'll get when. This year I think I've spent £600ish

He's often a bit shit at gifts, and some years he's got me nothing. I buy the stocking stuffers myself lol. He's just asked me last night what I want for Christmas 🤦🏼‍♀️ I kind of rolled my eyes at him and he promised it was just something extra and that I would be surprised on the day so we'll see.

WineGetsMeThroughIt · 21/12/2021 11:59

Birthday *near Christmas
