Where would you go away to next Christmas?

Last Christmas we were obviously in lockdown, this Christmas l have covid and self isolation doesn’t end until the end of the 27th of December. I’m obviously unhappy about this chain of events so lm trying to cheer myself up with thoughts and research of where to go next Christmas. Probably in this country with plenty of food, drink and relaxation. Maybe a county hotel with a roaring fire?! Not sure of the budget as never done anything like this in the past? But we do have a year to save up. No children, most likely it will be just the 2 of us

Canada

RhubarbFairy · 20/12/2021 13:39

We were supposed to fly to Austria tomorrow to ski for Christmas. Cancelled a couple of weeks ago when it was announced we'd have to do LFTs before coming home. Too risky to be quarantined in Austria for 10 days.

We booked it in September 2020. So here's hoping we can try again next year!

In terms of your research. Have a look at The Manor Hotel in Castle Combe. That might fit the bill for you.

Another vote for Canada - The Rockies.

Anaximedes · 21/12/2021 07:10

Barbados. Or the Canaries.

TravellingSpoon · 21/12/2021 07:17

Florida or Mexico. Been to both and both were great at Christmas.

Canada wpuld be my next choice although I havent been. One for my bucket list!

Tinitiny · 21/12/2021 07:19

Austria for snow or Saint Lucia for sunshine. Either will be awesome :)

StiggyZardust · 21/12/2021 07:21

I'm off to Antigua today. Very surprised that we're still allowed to go.

Hbh17 · 21/12/2021 07:30

Try a European city - many of them (eg Vienna, Amsterdam, Venice) have their museums & galleries open on 25th, and it is my absolute favourite way to spend Xmas day.

A lovely small country house hotel somewhere rural. Something like the Torridon in Scotland.

Forgothowmuchlhatehomeschoolin · 21/12/2021 07:54

Either somewhere really hot or somewhere really cold!

Ooh enjoy!! Merry Christmas x

Somewhere with snow. Austria/Switzerland are no guarantees for snow on Christmas so either Scandinavia or Canada.

For the UK maybe a hotel in/around York.

ilovebagpuss · 21/12/2021 08:42

This summer we went to a cottage on a Loch near Kyle of Localsh. It was honestly the most stunning place I’ve ever been with views of the five sister mountains 🏔. I would happily go there with a ton of food and booze and walk and read and rest.
Near to Skye as well.

Go abroad. My vote would be for Dominican Republic. Lovely and hot and if you go all inclusive you don't have to worry about food.

WhatHaveIFound · 21/12/2021 10:08

The Lake District. We stayed here a few years ago and it was stunning. Lovely friendly owners and amazing food.

Fontella · 21/12/2021 11:27

An isolated cottage in Pembrokeshire somewhere. Must have a wood stove and or/an open fire and be completely off the beaten track. Preferably with rotten phone/wi-fi signal.

Just me and lots of supplies, some good books and some nice walks.

Heaven!

BoudecaBains · 21/12/2021 11:32

I've worked the last two christmases on an ICU red zone so I'd want to spend it at home. In my own house with my family.

Anaximedes · 22/12/2021 18:29

Anywhere that is pleasant, UK or abroad. Literally. Fed up with the current status quo.

Anaximedes · 22/12/2021 18:35

Or I'm going to find a way to be working or volunteering on Xmas Day.

MintJulia · 22/12/2021 18:42

The highlands. Or Copenhagen.Smile

MissyB1 · 22/12/2021 18:46

Oooh would love Copenhagen but we have a fog and you can’t get doggy boarding easily at Christmas.
So a cottage in North Devon near to beaches and a good pub.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 22/12/2021 19:40

York would be my ideal too .
Somewhere in the town centre (with private secure parking) where we could step out the door into the beautful city streets

cptartapp · 22/12/2021 19:50

Once did Copenhagen for New Year. Terrifyingly fantastic NYE (fireworks!)
We fancy Cape Verde.

willagedisgracefully · 22/12/2021 20:00

Anywhere! For the past twenty five years my husband has been on call over Xmas so the staff can have the time call free. We are closest to the in-laws so always have to have them as one of my sils have never never invited them and the other who lives a few hours away doesnt like to leave her in laws alone so spends it with them. These in laws have two other adult children who could host. Next year we retire and will be fucking off and having the Xmas we want
