A whole frozen turkey can take between 3 to 5 days to defrost safely in the fridge, so here’s your reminder to check the packaging for defrosting instructions and pop it in the fridge so it’s ready to cook for Christmas!

We waste 100,000 tonnes of poultry every year in UK homes – that’s turkey, chicken, and duck going to waste, normally because we don’t use it in time. Remember, once you have cooked your poultry meats, they can be frozen again to save them for another day. Whether you make a traditional roast dinner, or try something different like a turkey curry or add it to a pasta bake, these cooked meals can be portioned up and frozen, helping you keep all your edible food out of the bin.

seems a bit too soon

BUMP

No, not started on mine yet because it's a little one.

But yes, everyone should be checking when it needs to begin to thaw.

There are threads every year when someone realised they've mucked up and are trying to work out how to do a rapid safe thaw

Maybe a thread like this might avert crisis for someone!!

They can be cooked from frozen if anyone forgets to take them out the freezer.

No, but I've just got my brussel sprouts boiling 😄.

There's quite a risk of uneven cooking if you do not thaw before cooking. At worst that's a food poisoning risk, which is presumably why NHS has a page about it

Going to get my crown out on thursday afternoon, and fridge it, see how it feels on friday, maybe out to the car with it, and then into a pan of briney water friday bedtime for a lovely swim. Drain and dry and then into the oven with it Christmas morning.

Mine won’t come out till tomorrow night or Thursday morning.

This sort of thread never fails to make me think of Dave best having a shave with his turkey in the royals.
