Do you wrap stocking fillers and stuff in sack.

In this house majority of presents come from us. For the last few years Santa brings a small stocking with some Christmas food treats and also and a sack with a few things in.

Do you wrap things from Santa if it's in the sack/stocking?

I don't wrap chocolates etc but the toys in the sack I normally do. But currently have covid and if it's a tiny bit of wrapping I can get out if I'll be pleased 😅 😷

Kids are quite young so won't remember it Santa wrapped or not last year! 😅

I do, but very messily, no neat edges etc.

Notdoingthis · 20/12/2021 08:50

Waste of paper

Theworldisquiethere · 20/12/2021 08:55

I wrap the presents but not the chocolates. One of my favourite memories from childhood Christmas is waking up and feeling the pillowcase (we didn’t have proper stockings) full of wrapped presents at the end of the bed. Poking at it through the fabric to try and guess how many presents there were while trying not to make it rustle too loudly so it wouldn’t wake my sister up. Unwrapped presents just don’t feel the same to me.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 20/12/2021 09:03

Wrapped here. We open stockings together on our bed and it turns into a sea of wrapping paper. Also it adds to the excitement of getting a toothbrush.

Santa dropped off presents early this year before we went on holiday (we thought it made more sense as some of the stuff was very useful on the holiday) and didn't wrap a couple of the items. Which Santa (or me) managed to get mixed up and put in the wrong stockings. I have separate wrapping paper for each person to avoid this...

IKissedSantaClaus · 20/12/2021 09:05

Well this thread has taught me that people have a stocking and a sack. I thought a sack was just an alternative for people who thought a stocking wasn't big enough. Are both from santa?

We do this but it's partly to help the kids work out whose presents are whose (we have 3 kids). The sacks don't actually hold that much so there are usually presents at the side as well. The children have a Christmas Eve box which contains their stockings, sacks and a special bauble each and they get those things out on their way to bed on Christmas Eve. They hang up a stocking and lay out a sack.

We wrap everything and have one kind of paper per child so that when I get everything out of the cupboard I know who it belongs to.

We do everything from Santa, stockings and all presents. We decide what's going in the stocking based on size really. So DS's biggest present this year is a smart watch, which is in a small box so is going in the stocking. It's just what will fit (as well as an orange, chocolate coins and 'a pound for the crib')

The sack is from Santa (the magically mythical man who flys on reindeer around the world in 1 night and delivers gifts to children) derived of Ded Moroz the Snow Spirit.

A stocking is simply just a tradition in memory of a real person called St. Nicolas - stockings are just like crackers or turkey or trees and tinsel it is part of the December celebration and have nothing to do with Santa here.

UndertheCedartree · 20/12/2021 21:23

@FlyingPandas

All stocking presents wrapped here. I agree with a PP, there's something magical about the rustling of paper inside the stocking or sack, and the excitement of unwrapping lots of individual little gifts. I remember it so well from my childhood. It just wouldn't be the same to simply tip out a load of unwrapped items.

I always wrap stocking gifts well in advance of Christmas Eve and I wrap everything, including the nets of chocolate coins and packets of popping candy. Sometimes it feels like a faff but I'm always glad I've done it when we get to Christmas Day. I use one different set of wrapping paper for each DC and hide any leftovers, I never use the same paper for stocking gifts as I do for other gifts. In the early days this was so they didn't notice that Santa had the same paper as we used! Bit ridiculous now as my older two haven't believed for years (17 and 12) but I still do it as it's part of the ritual and the tradition.

But you don't tip everything out! You dip your hand in and see what you pull out! That's the fun of it! Xmas Smile
GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 20/12/2021 21:28

Yes but not the chocolate

pilates · 20/12/2021 21:36

Yes I wrap everything

Marmite27 · 20/12/2021 21:39

Everything in the stocking is wrapped here, apart from a chocolate orange and a cuddly toy (top and toe!).

They have 12 things in their stockings (for the 12 days of Christmas). I only had 10 ‘from Father Christmas’ stickers, which may have influenced the two unwrapped prezzies.

Marmite27 · 20/12/2021 21:44
@AD80 - my 2 put their stockings on the fireplace and I honestly think it is so much better than being in their rooms. So many people on here having to stay up late to make sure the DC are really asleep and then trying not to wake them when sneaking in to fill the stocking. I just fill their stockings at my leisure and go to bed when I want!
We have a dresser with draws and cupboards in our bedroom, stockings go on there.

The eldest freaked out at the idea of FC in her room.

RavingAnnie · 20/12/2021 22:25

I just wrapped stocking presents in tissue paper. Much much quicker.

HandlebarLadyTash · 20/12/2021 22:31

I used to wrap stocking presents, I now just stuff them in. I hate wrapping presents.

steppemum · 20/12/2021 22:34

we have stockings which are not huge (not a sack) and have lots of tsmall bits and bobs, everything from chocolate to funky socks, plus a few small toys when younger.

Kids open them when thye wake up.
We then don't open presents under the tree until mid morning after breakfast and everyone up and dressed, and turkey in the oven.

So yes, all the stocking is wrapped, in order to spin it out as long as possible and keep every entertained for as long as possible

Starcaller · 20/12/2021 22:37

Yes to wrapping. When I was a kid, your stocking would magically appear at the end of your bed and the first sign would be when you woke up and poked around with your foot and heard that glorious scrunching and crackling of the wrapped presents inside. It's such a vivid memory that I have to recreate it for DD. Plus DH does all the wrapping as penance for not really doing any of the shopping, so not my problem Grin

sunflowerroses · 20/12/2021 23:02

All wrapped and I love it! As a child I used to empty it out to have a feel of all the presents and then never be able to get them all back in again, happy memories! My children open them taking it in turns in our bed and it's my favourite part of the day!

TheChosenTwo · 20/12/2021 23:26

Definitely wrapped! Ours have sacks from FC, they contain roughly 20 presents - a variety of things from their letters written to Father Christmas and other smaller items that I’ve just chosen.
Presents under the tree are from us and wrapped in separate paper, obviously.
Ridiculous in part as our 2 eldest are 16 and 17, the youngest is 10 and the ‘magic’ is on its way out but unwrapping presents is part of the fun, I wouldn’t not do it.
Having said that, in your circumstances I’d be tempted to not bother seeing as you said they were little and wouldn’t remember what happened last year and you’re poorly!

Angel2702 · 20/12/2021 23:42

Sweets, fruit and chocolate in stockings don’t get wrapped, everything else does. Stockings have separate paper so it’s not the same as the presents from us.

SE13Mummy · 20/12/2021 23:46

Stocking presents are badly wrapped here but anything edible is left unwrapped, as are random things I suddenly remember about at the last minute. We use cheap paper that has Santa on it for the stockings so can a) not bother with sellotape for anything like a bath bomb and b) use the same rolls year after year as Santa's gifts mostly fit into the stocking (all 40cm ish of it).

When the DC were younger, Santa sometimes had trouble fitting larger toy gifts into the stockings so DC would often find a bulging stocking and a couple of larger gifts e.g. jigsaw puzzle, Sylvanian Families family in Santa paper outside their bedroom door on Christmas morning. These days, Santa mainly fills the stockings with nicer versions of the toiletries/stationery that get bought normally plus a couple of things mentioned in their letters to Santa e.g. 17-yr-old's letter asked for a particular water bottle and some new slippers.

Do you wrap stocking fillers and stuff in sack.

I'm obsessive and do 12 every year too - number of months in the year, 12 days of Xmas etc...

they get 12 in a sack from Santa and 12 wrapped from me.

Yesthatscorrect · 21/12/2021 09:37

I used to get so stressed about everything I had to do before Christmas. And that was with having a very helpful husband too. So I removed the tasks which made me the most stressed. I don't wrap presents now. I use santa sacks for the kids, they pull out one present at a time. I use gift bags which I recycle for the next year for everyone else. I maybe have to buy a couple each year. I also ditched sending cards. I cut a load of people off our present buying list too so I don't spend as much time or money looking for gifts. I literally used to buy for 47 people!

I enjoy Christmas much more now.

Didicat · 21/12/2021 09:54

We wrap Santa stocking gifts, paper just held on by a bit of tape. They also get one present too big for their stocking from Santa. Everything else is from us.

livingonpurpose · 21/12/2021 13:30

I know my ds loves the excitement of unwrapping gifts, so I wrap everything - except for loose chocolate coins and soft toys. Stocking presents I wrap in tissue paper as they're usually small items I find this makes it easier.

Lolly86 · 21/12/2021 13:53

All wrapped except chocolate. Stocking with little presents only- hair bands, little £shop toys, Bath stuff etc maybe about 20 things altogether.... but I like it to be full of little things DD will love and it costs me less than £30 all in.

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 21/12/2021 15:47

I've always wrapped everything apart from chocolate coins & oranges in the stocking - makes it last a bit longer and unwrapping adds to the excitement.
But I love wrapping, can appreciate that might be a chore too many for those who don't.
