Appetisers on Christmas Day

My brain is completely fried - please help me think!

I’m trying to think of an appetiser to pass around about an hour before Christmas dinner, that can be eaten as finger food, and doesn’t require an oven.

My go to was brown bread and smoked salmon but I’m feeling very bleugh about smoked salmon at the moment.

Any ideas?

Also happy to hear what other people do/don’t/won’t serve on Christmas Day.

It’s not finger food but perhaps small bowls/shots of a nice warming soup?

Brie and cranberry crostini

Blini with a dollop of creme fraiche and caviar. You can warm the blini in the microwave if you like.

Brown bread cut into small squares - or mini melba toasts - topped with liver pâté, crispy onion and pickled beetroot.

Vol-au-vents filled with crab/trout/salmon mousse, topped with a tiny piece of lemon or cucumber, with a sprig of dill

Olive/mozzarella/cherry tomato/basil leaf on cocktail stick (forget what it’s called)

Cheese twists/grissini

This year I’m making little filo pastry parcels filled with a bit of goats cheese and some Tesco fig and balsamic chutney.

Ritz biscuits with Philadelphia cheese and a little bit of cayenne pepper sprinkled on them.

Mini crackers with Brie and cranberry sauce would be good too.

I’d still do a few blinis with smoked salmon, topped with sour cream, caviar and dill. Possibly a half quail’s egg as well (if you want to bother)

Pickled onion, cheese cube and pineapple skewers. Always a hit!

A cheese pineapple! Yes!

I was about to say I can’t believe anyone does anything other than booze and olives/crisps bf C’mas dinner, but this might be worth making an exception for.. and would be a lot better than the philly on ritz suggested above

But really I think olives and nuts is fine - I hate anything getting in the way of a second helping of roast potatoes..

Crostini with fresh fig, blue cheese and rocket and Brie and cranberry

Bamboo cocktail skewers with melon wrapped in Parma ham and king prawns (cooked with chilli sauce) and mango.

Homemade spiced nuts and olives.

A mini prawn cocktail on a little gem leaf
Dates stuffed with pecorino and wrapped in Parma ham, just need a few minutes warming in the oven
