Me, DH, and kids aged 16-27.
What would be a good game for us to play ?

We enjoy Ticket to Ride 😊

mellicauli · 16/12/2021 09:28

Really Nasty Horse Racing Game is good

BellaBella1984 · 16/12/2021 09:40

Can we have a quick bit of background please?
-How many players are you?
-What's your board gaming background? ie roll the dice and move a piece, or using cards to make your turn, or multi actions per turn?
-Do you have a board hand cafe nearby that you can access to try them out?

CentrifugalBumblePuppy · 16/12/2021 09:47

We play Cards Against Humanity (may be a bit close to the bone for the 16 year olds), but Exploding Kittens, Throw Throw Burrito, How Am I Weird, & More Or Less are great.

CentrifugalBumblePuppy · 16/12/2021 09:51

And I’ve just ordered Poetry For Neanderthals (Amazon have £5 off today).

WineGetsMeThroughIt · 16/12/2021 09:53

Was also going to suggest Cards Against Humanity. We got Throw Throw Burrito this year. amzn.to/3q0rOXd

Not played it yet as it's underneath the tree lol.

Our other Christmas tradition is to play monopoly. So perhaps a classic?

astoundedgoat · 16/12/2021 09:54

Serious: Mahjong, Settlers of Catan, Dixit

Funny: Unstable Unicorns, Exploding Kittens.

Cuter than Settlers of Catan: Takenoko

astoundedgoat · 16/12/2021 09:55

Throw Throw Burrito is great fun too. And Poetry for Neanderthals.

StarDanced · 16/12/2021 09:59

Ticket to ride, five tribes and Revolution! are all excellent games that are simple to learn and work well with up to five players.

00100001 · 16/12/2021 09:59

Fun party games could be

Telestrations - like "Chinese" whispers, with drawings.
Snake Oil - try and sell a nonsense item
Wits and Wagers - kind if like Trivial pursuit, except you can bet on each others answers.
Say anything - anonymous answering if questions where you can ...say anything.

tanstaafl · 16/12/2021 10:02

Monopoly Deal ( though the original deck was the best IMO! )

GoodnightGrandma · 16/12/2021 12:25

4/5 players, and I’d like it to be a fun game. Something to make us laugh , and give a memory of having had fun.

kavalkada · 16/12/2021 12:56

Camel up if you want to laugh

Misshape · 16/12/2021 13:06

My kids will be 19 and 17 this year. Our favourites are cards against humanity, Uno, and dobble.
Last year we all enjoyed brain fart and this year so far I’ve brought us debatable which sounds good fun

AtleastitsnotMonday · 16/12/2021 13:13

Don’t get got.
It’s brilliant, but not your typical ‘sit down and play a board game type game’. Basically you play it across the day whilst doing normal things. Each player has a series of ‘secret missions’ to complete with out other players realising that it was a mission.

liveforsummer · 16/12/2021 13:17

We had great fun with older teen dn's with say it don't spray it although I feel it might be a bit out of touch with current situations 😆

BellaBella1984 · 16/12/2021 13:50

For silly lol type of fun
Camel up
Colt express
Sushi go party
Just one
Although Codenames can be hilarious, it tends to be better for bigger groups and even numbered teams.

If you can't get to a board game cafe to try any of these out, there are plenty of you tube videos demonstrating game play. (Which to be honest helps speed up the learning curve with any new game we get.) Anything that's won the Spiel des Jahre is usually a safe bet, but steer clear of Kennerspiel winners to begin with.

Have fun!

Telestrations
Stuff and Nonsense
Consequences

BlueChampagne · 16/12/2021 14:42

Fluxx
Prediction Whist

BIWI · 16/12/2021 14:45

Chameleon is a good one.
Absolute Balderdash is great, but sadly I don't think they make it any more (although you might be able to get second hand ones?)

BIWI · 16/12/2021 14:46

One left in stock on Amazon

Squiblet · 16/12/2021 14:50

The website Board game geek has a page for practically every game ever made, and links to video reviews which show you how to play (easier to grasp when you see people doing it, rather than reading about it). The Reddit subgroup r/boardgames is a good resource, too, and quite friendly.

Duckerbizzle · 16/12/2021 20:12

Thoroughly recommend Linkee!

MrsSkylerWhite · 16/12/2021 20:14

Good, old Trivial Pursuit or Cluedo.

pinksquash13 · 16/12/2021 20:15

Yes I really like linkee too.

Logo game also good.
