Oh wise mumsnetters. My sister has just had a little boy.

Please can you give me some ideas of what to get him for Christmas.

My budget is £30.

She already has 1 older child so has quite a few things already.

Other than clothes does anyone have any ideas?

Have you asked what he needs. I have a brand new niece and my sister in law told me what they need for her.

Bubblty · 15/12/2021 20:52

A personalised Christmas decoration

Playdoughcaterpillar · 15/12/2021 20:53

Gold or frankincense or myrrh maybe?

CrazyOldBagLady · 15/12/2021 20:57

Vouchers for a baby massage/sensory/swimming thing for babies for something to take him to on mat leave?

If you want a toy or gadget maybe a projector lamp off Amazon and a grab toy like a lamaze one.

Tickit do some nice sensory stuff for babies too.

Ponoka7 · 15/12/2021 21:02

The Lamaze as suggested are good. I thought that Sofie the giraffe teether was a gimmick, but the babies like them.

We don't really do that in our family we do surprises. Plus I don't think there is anything they actually need

I agree with pp, personalised tree decoration.

boymum88 · 15/12/2021 21:29

If they don't need things, how about buying premium bonds for the baby or popping money into a savings account ?

MarshmallowsOnToast · 15/12/2021 21:29

Tuppence & Crumble star wrap?

Loved ours, it was brilliant. Very practical and baby looks absolutely adorable in it.

Scarby9 · 15/12/2021 21:32

Yep. A festive bauble.
Maybe a homemade babysitting voucher from you?

Fallagain · 15/12/2021 21:39

As he is the second child please just ask. With a new born their house will be full of stuff and they will probably already have most things.

stickybear · 15/12/2021 22:13

I came on to recommend a Tuppence and Crumble star wrap but see I've been beaten to it Smile just the most useful thing, and babies look incredibly cute in them

wishing3 · 15/12/2021 22:14

Clothes for when he’s older or board books

Largethighsbadeyes · 15/12/2021 22:19

Some great ideas thank you.

I know the stuff they have/don't have so no need to ask from that perspective and as I've said we do surprises in our family.

Star wraps look cute.

Decoration also lovely idea but cutting it a bit close for personalisation/delivery now

Thinking books may be the way forward as pp said, maybe a collection?

Have a look on My 1st Years. They do lovely baby gifts.

PinkJam · 16/12/2021 07:18

I’d get an outfit and one of the That’s not my books or the where’s Mr/Mrs … ones

At least those things will definitely
be used and appreciated.

GettingStuffed · 16/12/2021 13:28

Leg and wrist rattles, they can be used long before most other toys..

Doveyouknow · 16/12/2021 13:35

Nice book - Christmas themed or maybe a collection of stories. Write a message to remind them of their first Xmas in the future

Borracha · 16/12/2021 13:38

Agree with a previous suggestion of a projector - we've got a lovely one with stars that keeps my newborn occupied for a bit every morning when she wakes and it's still dark! My older boys (5 and 3) love it as well.

StruggleStreet · 16/12/2021 13:54

I’ve got a new baby and for Christmas I’ve got him a light projector and some sensory toys (rattles, teether, colourful scarves, etc). Family are getting him a play mat and giving some money for us to book baby classes in the new year.

Largethighsbadeyes · 16/12/2021 14:19

I do love the light projectors! Thanks for the suggestions

A teddy, teething toys,

Ask if there is anything they need, it's a surprise for the kids even if mum knows. There might be something that they want either because they never had one or the last one broke or whatever.
