What is the most recently released Christmas song that has really "stuck" and become a classic that gets played every year?

I listen to Radio 2 most days and with the exception of the songs that have been released this year, all the Christmas music seems to have come from the 70s and 80s, 90s at a push!

Even Last Christmas is 41 years old. I'm scratching my head to think of more recent Christmas hits that everyone knows and can sing along to?

Both reasonably recent and definitely get played a lot this time of year!

I have no idea what either of those songs are!
The most recent ones I can think of are Mariah 'All I want for Christmas' and East 17 'Stay another Day' which were both 1994 apparently.

I love being on the look out for Christmas songs which fit that criteria, good question!

To add to the Leona Lewis and Kelly Clarkson offerings, there is Santa Tell Me by Ariana Grande from 2014, but it didn’t chart highly until 2017 and 2018. There is also Coldplay’s Christmas Lights from 2010. Most of the songs released since 2010 though haven’t really gained traction (when pitted against the fail safe 70s and 80s classics). Basically they haven’t gained much radio air play and so haven’t entered the charts inside the Top 40.

Oh, and Last Christmas was 1984, so “only” 37 years old...hopefully that makes us all feel younger!
