Your family’s Christmas traditions

So, The Christmas tree and port tradition. This came about when we used to go and choose our tree which was cut for us often in an icy, muddy field. Dh would be grumpy because he worried about getting mud in the car and then there would be the palaver of getting the tree into the lounge, it was often a bit too big and I would be fussy about it’s position and so on.When it was finally in place we would celebrate with port.
Now we have a very nice artificial tree that we’ve had for a few years. It can still be a battle getting it in from the shed and erected and I’m still very fussy of course! Port is still required 😂

Another one that we used to do when Dd was little. We had a squirrel ornament with a tail made out of dried grasses. I used to hide it up the tree and we would lie on the floor, look up through the tree and try and find it. This went on until one year the tree was put out in the garden after Christmas with the squirrel forgotten about. It got soggy and fell to bits.

What little Christmas traditions do you have?

Boxing Day all the family meet up, anywhere between twenty - thirty of us at the beach for a long walk with the dogs and there’s a lovely little cafe open we get hot drinks and all have a good catch up before heading home. Most take a detour to ours after for food and drinks. We’ve been doing this as a family for around thirty years since I was little but it’s no pressure if someone doesn’t want to come it’s just an open invite and it’s my favourite day of the year.
