Not counting good news / babies etc, but actual gifts that people have given you?

My favourites include a cross back linen apron (a bit like this one - so comfortable & easy to take on and off, but I'd never spend that much on an apron for myself, and a 6 month subscription for a monthly bunch of locally grown organic flowers, again something I'd never buy for my self but a lovely thing to brighten the winter months.

Dh bought me a beaten silver bangle for £100 one year. It's beautiful.

Subscription to favourite magazines was another good one - like getting a mini gift every month.

My sister got me a pretty glass dish with a big candle - still have the dish. TKMAXX have loads of lovely glass.

Best gift I got for dh was a fountain pen and his iPod classic but I can't remember what they cost now

Mr frosty machine two years ago, I always wanted one as a child but never got one on and flights to Paris leaving the next day x

DoucheCanoe · 11/12/2021 21:20

@Sadik, even better that it was half price on a FB selling page Grin

One year my husband got me three different Klean Kanteens. One was a coffee cup type but also had a straw lid. One of my favourite and most used presents ever.

PinkKecks · 11/12/2021 22:31

Loads (& I mean LOADS) of jaffa cakes.

Twilight7777 · 12/12/2021 00:06

My kindle is definitely up there, along with my precious cat I received at the age of 14 (been gone 10 long years now bless her)

A 14inch TV when i was 14 years old.

It was a one off luxury present for my room.

That was over 30 years ago. I still remember it and it lasted 13 years.

Electric blanket: I was living on my own in a one bedroom flat with only crappy night storage heaters and used to go to bed with 2 hot water bottles, pyjamas, dressing gown and coat on the bed over me. BF (now DH) thought an electric blanket would be a great present, his sisters thought he was crazy and I would dump him in the New Year. But I bloody loved it!!!!
His other absolute triumph was a huge kit bag with a wet clothing compartment, which I loved and and it was far more expensive than I would have spent on myself.

This will sound strange but my dad got me a chrome Draper colour coded precision screwdriver set. I have used it SO much over the years, it’s been about the most useful present I’ve ever had!

YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake · 12/12/2021 06:55

Electric screwdriver. Was only about £14 but I love it, and have used it to assemble lots of flat pack furniture over the last few years

Sadik · 12/12/2021 10:07

Ex-H & I got a torque wrench as one of our wedding presents, it was very gratefully received!

Sounds daft, but an air fryer. I use it almost daily.

RubiesandRose · 12/12/2021 12:51

An ex bought me Ugg slippers about 4 years ago and although I had never been a slipper wearer, I loved them and still going strong today.

It was a side gift to a more romantic main present, not sure I would have been quite so thrilled had they been my main present!!

Sadik · 13/12/2021 18:20

I love that the rubbish presents thread has 350+ responses, as opposed to 17 here - I guess people feel much more strongly about their crap gifts!

My best present ever was when my dh filled a stocking for me!
He’s always generous with gifts, but I’d told him randomly one day that I’d never had a stocking as a child and that’s why I loved doing the dcs ones so much.
That year he bought and filled a stocking with all my favourite little things, and I could barely look through it for tears.
May seem a little silly, but he still gets me one every year now and it’s my favourite thing I look forward to.

Sadik · 13/12/2021 18:46

That's so lovely, Froppysue :) :)

@Twilight7777 i know how you feel. A cat is not just for life; it's for Christmas too. i miss the festive snuggles.

all our pets used to get their own gift wrapped under the tree too.
