Good Christmas films

Can anyone recommend some good Christmas films for me and 16yo dd to watch, please. We both like to binge watch them all through December but can't seem to find enough good ones...just a load of identical Netflix ones that all look the same. Confused

Our tastes are pretty varied. Definitely not averse to the usual Christmas cheese, and I have a particular weakness for depictions of Christmas in New York. Happy to watch other stuff too. Don't mind old classic or modern take.

We love miracle on 34th Street and it's a wonderful life, but tend to save those until Christmas itself. DD likes home alone, I can't really watch it now as it irritates me. We quite like Elf. Love nativity, especially the first one. Recently watched Last Christmas and Love Actually again, which we enjoyed. Not sure if Die Hard counts as a Christmas film but we enjoyed that recently too! Grin

What else can we watch, please?

The Santa Clause, Christmas with the Kranks

Thecurtainsofdestiny · 11/12/2021 17:02

Last Christmas.

And if you like musicals, Christmas on the Square.

longtompot · 11/12/2021 17:03

Klaus is an excellent film, though an animation. Worth watching.
Arthur Christmas.
Scrooged
Die Hard

Rare export

I laugh quite hard to some of the scenes in National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. We watched it with DGS a few years ago when he was about ten, and he kept being disgusted at the stupid things Chevy Chase go up to.

Really, really silly but funny.

Doggydoodah123 · 11/12/2021 17:17

Fred Claus

I like If you believe in Christmas, it's on Great Movies quite regularly. It's about a career woman who is visited by her seven year old self, which I think would be fantastic if you could really do that.

ineedanewbum · 11/12/2021 17:23

Watched Angela's Christmas and Angela's Christmas Wish last night with the kids. They are animated and are only short but are beautifully made and very very sweet. Maybe a 16 year old wouldn't be into it but I loved it and so did my husband.

Bellafrenum · 11/12/2021 17:23

Christmas Chronicles 1 & 2 are great, and we just watched Home Alone which is so Christmassy. Bridget Jones Diary?

Bellafrenum · 11/12/2021 17:24

Oh - Last Christmas with Emilia Clarke is surprisingly good. Covent Garden rather than New York.

Bellafrenum · 11/12/2021 17:25

Oh- The Night Before, though there are lots of drugs in it.

R0llonspring · 11/12/2021 17:25

I love a Christmas film, but my favourites have already been suggested!

So I recommend not a film; but new TV series on Disney +

"Hawkeye" is a Marvel spin off series. It's being released weekly, but there's a fair few episodes to binge as of today. Set in New York, humorous action adventure during the weeks leading up to Christmas. Very atmospheric. Dd15 & Dd13 really enjoying it so far...

If you want Christmas cheese then I recommend The Christmas Consultant with the Hoff! On Amazon

Hesma · 11/12/2021 17:27

I love Mrs Miracle 2, the holiday and last Christmas

Festivesugarplum · 11/12/2021 17:28

I'm at this very second watching Arthur Christmas. Its really good. Getting me in the Christmas spirit.

Also National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation is really good and is good if you want a Christmas comedy.

BeetyAxe · 11/12/2021 17:30

Daddy’s Home 2 is weird but also Christmassy, we love it. Also love Last Christmas on Netflix.

CelebrateYourOwnWay · 11/12/2021 17:33

Earlier this week I watched Click and Collect. It's on Netflix and stars Stephen Merchant. It only lasts for just over 1 hour but I quite enjoyed it.

Also, National Lampoons Christmas Vaction.

LunaLoveFood · 11/12/2021 17:33

The muppets Christmas Carol and Arthur Christmas are the best!

nachocheese · 11/12/2021 17:34

There are loads of Hallmark Christmas films you can stream on My5, I've been watching them for a couple of weeks now. Sometimes two or three a day Grin

TheBestWhootersInWhoville · 11/12/2021 17:34

I’ve got a soft spot for crap 90s films like
Jingle All The Way,
The Santa Clause
and Jack Frost.

More films to watch:
Scrooged

Four Christmases
The Holiday
Deck The Halls (Danny Devito one, there’s a few films with this name)
Christmas With the Kranks
Bad Santa
Daddy’s Home 2 (this is utter shite IMO but others like it)
National Lampoons Christmas Vacation
Box of Delights
Gremlins
Fatman
Fred Claus
The Nightmare Before Christmas
How The Grinch Stole Christmas
And... Lethal Weapon Grin if Die Hard is a Christmas film then so is Lethal Weapon 🤷‍♀️

MattDamon · 11/12/2021 17:47

Another recommendation for Hawkeye. The first ep in particular was very Christmassy.

anothername007 · 11/12/2021 17:51

last Christmas, Netflix

SarahBellam · 11/12/2021 17:54

National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation
Home Alone is a lot of fun. My DS watches it every year with his friend and they still laugh like drains.

mnp321 · 11/12/2021 17:58

My teenage boys love The Holiday and Daddy's Home 2. I make them watch Love Actually too.

Wheelz46 · 11/12/2021 18:02

Got to be the first one to say this, Die Hard is not a Christmas movie, even Bruce Willis agrees Grin
