Anyone else bracing for upcoming destruction? Or maybe it's already started Grin

Our previous two older girls were never really interested in the tree, but we sadly lost both of them this year. Our old boy several years ago always selected a single bauble that he was determined to pull down but once he had it he'd leave the rest alone. New 10 month old cat is VERY much a climber so I'm sure we're in for an interesting few weeks!

Starting this thread so I have somewhere to come and read about other furry wrecking balls when I'm picking up baubles or plucking her from the top of the tree for the 20th time Grin

Mine used to climb the fake tree until they broke it. We now have real and they don't bother unless for a drink of the water. We also use cinnamon scenticles around the bottom. Occasionally a bauble will get knocked off while they're drinking. I can cope with that.

Our cats are celebrating their 3rd Christmas with us .
Year 1 - put up a tree (fake) no baubles , static lights . Four days it was up till Female Cat was in there
Year 2 - same tree , no bauble , static lights . I thinks a week.
Year 3 - (this year) No tree
We've had the Are we having a tree up conversations .
No .

We have two six month old Maine coons and got a very prickly tree which so far has done the trick. Mind you they do eat the tinsel...

BearSoFair · 14/12/2021 16:52

No climbing so far but lots of patting baubles and yanking a couple clean off their strings...her little face when we put it up! Cat toy tree!

Apparently if you put tinfoil on the floor around your tree, they won’t go on it.

BettyfromBristol · 14/12/2021 17:19

My cousin used to put her tree up for an hour, throw the cats into the garden, take photos of her DC plus tree for posterity, then take the tree down and let the cats back in.

My cat Emmy thinks her name has been changed to “No or stop it”. Problem is not climbing or even whacking the baubles etc. she likes to chew it (not a real tree, which is apparently more dangerous than an artificial one). We have battery lights rather than our usual electric ones, as she also like to chew wires, anything plastic really, don’t know why!!

Also she likes to play with tinfoil balls, so putting that round the bottom would not work.

We've had our fake (undecorated) tree up for a week now, just to see whether there was any interest from our 3 adult rescues, because we have no idea whether they have been acclimatised to Christmas trees or not yet.

One (the fattest), has been in it. Not for long though, as it was felled almost before he knew where he was, and he hasn't tried again.

Tomorrow we decorate. What could possibly go wrong?

You've got a minx there @Fairnair

Fairnair · 14/12/2021 17:38

Don’t I know it @thatsallineed! We love her to bits but she’s not “normal”, does not like chicken, beef, tuna, cheese, etc. etc. but likes plastic!

thatsallineed · 14/12/2021 17:45

@Fairnair I'm not sure there even is such a thing as a normal cat, to be honest!

Fairnair · 14/12/2021 17:47

That’s true @thatsallineed. Have had quite a few cats, all very different catsonalities!

Snozzlemaid · 14/12/2021 17:50

Love all these photos of your cats peeping out from in the trees.
Ours went up on Sunday and dcat (18 months) is still very very interested, especially when she's wound up and a bit lively.
She's not climbed it since we decorated it but she's constantly batting and knocking off baubles. And chewing it!
I can hear her when I'm working in the next room so have spent the last two days saying her name in a loud, stern voice which does stop her in her tracks for a minute or two. When I peep in the room she tries to look all innocent.
Thankfully at night she does tend to sleep for most of it, but I am half expecting to find it knocked over one morning.

Emmy has discovered she can climb the tree, 6 times now, 3 times yesterday.
