If you go away for Christmas do you give your DC presents before or after?

We're away for Christmas. DD's Father Christmas presents are fine to travel with us so she'll receive those in her stocking etc. on Christmas morning.

I've bought her a play kitchen from me which I've currently got hiding in a cupboard at home. I'm in two minds and can't decide whether to give her the kitchen tomorrow (so that she has a full weekend day to play with it) or wait until we get back from our trip (1st week of Jan).

What do others do in this situation?

We take one small gift with us and the rest are under the tree when we get back.

We regularly went abroad pre-Covid as it was the only time my husband could guarantee time off! I used to take their stockings in the case then the presents from us and family we would have the weekend before we went. I used to go all out Christmas and have presents, Christmas dinner, family visited etc just as we would on Christmas Day. I liked presents to be tidied away before we went so it was ready for back to school/work when we returned. X

I would do them after. They'll already be excited about the holiday in the lead up, and the presents will be something nice for when you get home Xmas Grin

We have this dilemma this year. We go the Saturday before Christmas, return Boxing day.

Some of the stuff is for the holiday, so they need that before they go. So we are doing family presents (thats stuff from us, Santa and their sibling) before we go. Then taking a few small things in the stocking.
But Christmas eve is big party, so it makes more sense to get two of the stocking presents then (sparkly eyeshadow, copy on earrings).

So I've got hardly anything left in the stocking. Just a magazine, rubik puzzle, sweets...
