Where can I get something that looks like the Louis Vuitton wallet?

It's for my 15 year old son and he's desperate for the checkered LV wallet. I'd rather not spend £300+ on something I'd be nervous about him losing and I'm not keen on getting a fake - not that I'd know where to look for that!

So is there any deal on that you know of? Anything similar?

I 'could' go to the £300 but for something like this, I'm loathe to.

Is there a picture of the one he wants, so people have something to compare to?

Bushkin · 09/12/2021 19:24

I wouldn’t, if that’s the one he wants I’d get that or something totally different. Just imagine having your heart set on something and you open a right shape and size gift to discover it’s similar but not quite… like you really want molton brown but it’s a Baylis & Harding…

Maybe a contribution towards the wallet if he wants to save for it?

GivenchyDahhling · 09/12/2021 19:25

If he wants the LV one then I don’t think one that “looks like” it probably won’t cut it. I would look at another cheaper but prestige brand eg Aspinal.

This one!

And I know I know ... there's little point in me producing a Diesel wallet or a nice Calvin Klein one!

But even my my own extravagant tastes, it seems pricey! Probably because it is 😀

Don’t buy him something similar but not the same. Instead ask everyone that normally buys him a pressie to contribute to it then he gets one gift under the tree. But make him aware that’s what is happening

Justwingingit2005 · 09/12/2021 19:32

Have you tried TK Maxx.

Ted Baker do nice 15 yr old approved wallets.

ButteredOwl · 09/12/2021 19:33

There's no one else that buys for him really and he's already got a good selection of decent gifts. So this is an extra which I can afford and don't have an issue with price wise ... but it just seems a lot for a wallet

OP posts:
LapinR0se · 09/12/2021 19:46

Can you get him to do 65,000 chores between now and Xmas?!

ButteredOwl · 09/12/2021 19:50

@LapinR0se ha now there's a thought Grin

I'll have to see how generous I'm feeling

Is £300 your gift budget? If it is, I’d get it on the understanding that that is The one and only gift.
If you’re anything like me, you’ve probably bought £100s of pounds worth of gifts that in hindsight just didn’t get played with enough or weren’t worth the money.
If he’s careful with his things he will probably have it for years.
I never understand that some people are happy to spend £100s on gaming things, but not designer goods.
If I wanted to make it really special, I’d see if I could buy an empty LV gift box on eBay, and then put a ticket inside for a special day out to go to the shop to buy it. It will be a really special experience, and I’m sure he’d love to have the LV bag it comes in too.

If £300 is not your gift budget then no wallet.

mugoftea456 · 09/12/2021 19:53

I wouldn't get a different brand. At that age it's just the name they want.

I really hate fakes. But I have a few friends who buy a lot of fakes online. To be fair they are good quality, but morally I couldn't buy any myself.

Could you combine it with birthday present/chores etc

Etinoxaurus · 09/12/2021 19:55

You already have his presents and this is an extra?! HmmConfused
ButteredOwl · 09/12/2021 19:56

@NameChangeinHaste yes correct. He already has a multitude of gifts all wrapped up. I'd planned to spend maybe another £200 max. I can go to the £300 but it seems like such a lot for a wallet. And I have a mulberry purse that was a third cheaper

OP posts:
ButteredOwl · 09/12/2021 19:57

@Etinoxaurus sorry I'm not fitting your brief of giving one small gift and a tangerine if I'm feeling he needs a top up. I won't be guilted because I just so happen to have perhaps a different budget or way of doing things to you.

OP posts:
ButteredOwl · 09/12/2021 19:57

@mugoftea456 he had a birthday last week! But I'm thinking extra chores could be a way to go.

He's a good boy, he doesn't expect it.

OP posts:
CamdenLurker · 09/12/2021 19:59

I'd just buy him the wallet that he really wants, imagine his face when he opens it 😊 if you can afford it, do it!

ButteredOwl · 09/12/2021 19:59

@CamdenLurker oh his face would be a picture that's for sure!

I looked at second hand ones on eBay and found one for £80. However its really pretty tatty with cracks and a fair bit of obvious wear

OP posts:
Sprig1 · 09/12/2021 20:18

If your budget for additional gifts was £200 a5the wallet he really wants then I would just get it. Let him know that you expect him to look after it!

ihearttc · 09/12/2021 20:20

Try Vova

I have a LV bag from there…they do wallets too. Not genuine but very realistic.

UsernameInTheTown · 09/12/2021 20:27

He really wants it, you really want to buy him it. It's been a shitty couple of years recently. Buy the wallet!

ButteredOwl · 09/12/2021 20:51

Ok I think I've found the compromise!

He literally carries one card in his current wallet and the occasional train ticket. So I've found on the LV website a card holder - same pattern, holds 3 cards and has a money clip. £200

So that's a little more palatable, he will love it as it's LV and even though £200 is clearly mad, it's not £320

OP posts:
NameChangeinHaste · 28/12/2021 14:08

Was he delighted with the card wallet?
