It's my work Christmas night out soon (meal and drinks). I've not been out for drinks in absolutely ages and don't tend to drink at home. There seem to be lots of new drinks out there and it made me think I don't even know where to start.

So I was curious what are your favourite alcoholic drinks?

One new-ish thing (at least round our way) is low- or no-alcohol beers being available in most pubs. So I tend to stick to beer on a night out, and hop between between alcohol-ful and alcohol-free (tending more towards the latter as the night goes on), and so can drink pints all night without getting drunk or risking a sore head. Especially handy if it's something like a works night out and I cba with accusations of being a party-pooper - no one knows it's alcohol free once it's in a glass.

I do like an amaretto and coke at Christmas. Literally tastes like Christmas.

Ponoka7 · 09/12/2021 19:24

There's usually Christmas themed cocktails, like the poinsettia (fizzy wine, cranberry and cointreau) , which is what I go for. There's new fruit flavoured beers/cider and some with sultana/honey type flavours. My usual go to is white rum.

Ponoka7 · 09/12/2021 19:25

I also have a steamboat over Christmas (southern comfort, lime, lemonade).

MojoJojo71 · 09/12/2021 19:29

Christmas drinks for me are Amaretto and coke, Tia Maria and coke or Southern Comfort with lime and ginger ale.

At our work Christmas party I was introduced to a drink which is equal parts tia Maria, baileys and fresh cream layered in a shot glass. Delicious 😋

I rarely drink but #1: Palomas - forever and ever and ever, and even in winter

I enjoy French 75s, margaritas, and whiskey sours too

timoteigirl · 09/12/2021 20:29

Does it taste okay with Diet or Coke zero or needs to be full sugar Coke?

Acunningruse · 10/12/2021 12:35

Diet coke is fine thats what I have it with.

M0rT · 10/12/2021 12:37

Christmas drinks are baileys, tia Maria and milk but these days I stick to Corona light because I don't really drink at home either so my tolerance for alcohol is very low now.

SpanielsAreMyLife · 10/12/2021 12:42

Baileys with lots of ice.

Espresso Martini.

Once had an amazing cocktail that was gin, champagne and fresh lemon juice.

Sunsetsupernova · 10/12/2021 12:45

On a night out recently someone bought me a spiced rum and lemonade. I’m normally a strictly Prosecco or cocktail drinker but it was absolutely delicious

Sunsetsupernova · 10/12/2021 12:47

Oh my ultimate drink is an espresso martini. However, I don’t drink caffeine at all so I have to stop myself getting carried away or I’m up all night with heart palpitations which does nothing for the hangover the next day

IGotHam · 10/12/2021 12:56

Cava
A negroni
A Bombay sapphire with tonic Wine

AdaptAdapt · 10/12/2021 13:05

I've recently discovered lemon drop cocktails (vodka base) and I love them. Also a zombie cocktail (rum base).

Southern Comfort & Coke

Archers with lots of ice - yum

I also like Fireball cinnamon whisky with ice

evtheria · 10/12/2021 13:22

@SpanielsAreMyLife That sounds like a French 75, they are so good!

lindyloo57 · 11/12/2021 17:30

Love a baileys with ice

Agadorsparticus · 11/12/2021 17:34

I love cocktails on a night out but if it's a long night I'll usually stick to Cider as I drink quite a few without getting hammered.

helibirdcomp · 11/12/2021 19:57

Currently getting tipsy on bombardino's. Hot Advocaat with extra brandy and whipped cream on top. Alcoholic custard - what's not to like! An essential on ski holidays for defrosting cold toes. As we cant ski this Christmas we are just doing the alcohol bit. If we get bored with the bomardino's we can move from Italy to France and have Vin Chaud or Grog then on to Austria for Jaeger tea (hunters tea)

MintyCedric · 12/12/2021 00:07

Opihr spiced gin and ginger ale.

Cafe patron tequila

Old fashioned

Or if I'm at home, mulled cider with a generous splash of toffee vodka added

Avarua · 12/12/2021 01:18

I like a champagne or a decent New Zealand champagnois (definitely not cheap Prosecco thanks) to start.
Then a beer or two
Followed by a single malt or two. Ardbeg or Bruichladdic if it's available.

Avarua · 12/12/2021 01:19

On a summer's eve, gin and tonic or champagne or a chilled rosé with ice.

Innocenta · 12/12/2021 03:46

I love an espresso martini or a French 75 Xmas Wink

DropYourSword · 12/12/2021 04:15

I generally drink Kahlua and Diet Coke. If I’m drinking cocktails I’ll go for a fruit tingle - far too easy to drink!
