Gift idea for a 2 1/2 year old who loves small world play and dogs

I am looking for ideas for my granddaughter 2 1/2 who loves small world play but has so much. She has playmobil 123 ark, zoo, farm, playground and a wooden farm. She has a small vet set from Chad valley. She has a dolls house which her Schleich dogs play in rather than the little dolls and duplo with lots of dogs in that. I have run out of ideas for either another “theme “ or another style of dog to play with. Any ideas gratefully received. She is a big paw patrol fan but has been given an advent calendar so the little dog characters are in that.

My little one almost the same age is just getting into role play- a butterfly and an astronaut costume have gone down well. Could you get her a vet outfit, or a dog onesie?

She also loves dressing up other things, so a dog build a Bear with a couple of outfits to change might be a winner?

On the non- dog theme, a wipe clean drawing board, fuzzy felt, a water colouring book with pens.

We've bought her a decathlon balance beam set this christmas

Some great ideas there , where did you get your dressing up sets from ? She is quite petite and most I have seen are from ages 3-5 so would be far too big . A dog onesie is a great idea I will have a google. I was disappointed with fuzzy felts when I looked recently, they were no longer the traditional shapes , I could only find unicorns and princesses.

You can buy play silks in lots of colours (and multi colours) that can be used as small play landscapes, or as capes or anything they want to do with them! It means they develop their imaginations and find new ways to use their own toys. Smile

Is there a real dog in the family? Yappy.com does some lovely personalised books we have " 'dogs name's' wondrous adventure" which is brilliant and DD loves it.

Books, both Spot and Hairy Mclarey were enjoyed here.

Fairly certain Lottie dolls do a doll that comes with a dog.

My two year old is getting a pitter patter pet dog (walks on a leash sort of like a remote controlled car) after falling madly in love with one owned by a friend. Perhaps something like that?

Definitely fancy dress. Big sizes don’t matter for dress up, adds to the charm. Paw patrol PJs otherwise, or a vet set

How about puppy in my pocket, my daughter had a big bundle of mine from when I was a child at that age and loved them. There is a dog themed hotel, baskets and mum & baby dog sets. Shes 9 and still plays with them!

Or puppy surprise with the dog with puppies in her tummy.

Pound puppies.

Build a bear dog and accessories.

Duvet cover/lunch box/clothes with dogs on.

My daughters best gift at that age was a tent, hers was the circus one from IKEA. Spent hours in there playing, reading.

Games? Soggy doggy. Or orchard toys games, jenga, pop up pirate, dougnutters were favourites at that age!

Some dog/bone shaped cookie cutters with her own apron, mixing bowl and spoon. A little homemade baking set! We love making biscuits and cakes!

What about a battery operated dog which you have on a lead and can walk?

Birdybirdbirdy · 08/12/2021 23:10

How about this

I’ve seen people make up mini small world sets in a sectioned plastic box with the toys, play dough and other bits that match the theme.

Glitterbaby17 · 08/12/2021 23:21

The Bluey toys were a big hit with my dog mad daughter at that age. She also loved the Melissa and Doug vet dress up that comes with a puppy. She had it at 3 and was fine just quite long. She was also delighted with a random pack of plastic dogs from her Grandpa

I was going to suggest this. Also, I know you said they have a small vet set, but maybe it could be upgraded to the Melissa and Doug one? DD2 was given this at a similar age and still plays with it now at 5.5yo. It has lots of bits with it including a cone of shame, and has a cuddly cat and dog to treat (just in case your DC doesn't already have 10 x their body weight in cuddly toys). It would be even better if paired with the M&D vet costume mentioned upthread.

Everyone has posted the good ideas but I just wanted to say she sounds adorable from your thread title!

AiryFairy1 · 09/12/2021 07:04

Second the idea of silks as multi- purpose dress up options, wrapping toys in, den building etc. Sara’s silk are beautiful but expensive 😬
Also, my petite (as was) wee 2yo DD picked out a super cute fairy outfit from TK Maxx …
Happy land toys last For Ever - ours ended up at bath toys and are still going, 8 years later!

hotMenopause · 09/12/2021 10:25

Thank you so much for all your brilliant ideas, and yes @TopTabby she is adorable .

@hotMenopause for a butterfly set we bought a tutu from h&m and some butterfly wings from tiger, so it wasn't a costume as such but she wears them as one. Our astronaut costume was from TK Maxx.
