Decent books set at Christmas time ?

Any suggestions for good (well written) books set at Christmas time? I would like to curl up with some really festive books this year . I also like to choose books as presents for some family members.

Ideally something uplifting rather than dark or scary.

It's a children's book really but The Thirteen Days of Christmas by Jenny Overton is lovely.

@AppleWitch thank you I haven't heard of that one... Even better if I can pretend I am buying it for the children Grin

Not a ‘curl up with’ as such, but ‘A Child’s Christmas in Wales’ by Dylan Thomas is wonderful. Also not what you asked for exactly (sorry!) but Tolkien’s ‘Letters from Father Christmas’ are very nice to read to a child, but also enjoyable for the adult.

Oh I love Tolkien's letters to Father Christmas Smile

I haven't read Dylan Thomas's book but I shall take a look, thank you. Anything festive that I can get lost in for a while will be perfect

I always think of Little Women as quite festive.
Village Christmas by Laurie Lee
Christmas at Cold Comfort Farm
Christmas Days by Jeanette Winterson

My Christmas read is End of Term by Antonia Forest. The description of the Nativity in the cathedral goes to the very heart of Christmas.

I also have two favourite poems. Christmas, John Betjeman (and there’s a lovely clip on YouTube of him reading it), and A A Milne’s King John’s Christmas.

All of the above make me cry.

I've just downloaded 'The Dark is Rising' onto my Kindle after having seen it recommended so many times on here.

I known it's a children's novel but I often think they're best Grin

I'll never get over the fact that it took me 35 years to discover 'The Box of Delights' (again recommend by good old MN). It's become one of my Christmas traditions and I'm gutted I missed out on so many years of reading it!

I'm enjoying Winter Solstice by Rosamund Pilcher.

Yes. Definitely an uplifting, curl-up book.

Can't beat A Christmas Carol by Dickens.

The Children of Green Knowe. It's a children's book, but I love it and it's set over the Christmas holidays.
