DS changed his plan when we went to see santa and instead of the bike I've spent a lot of money on Hmm he wants a rainbow racecar
I know the important thing here is the colour, rainbow is his favourite colour.
So I've googled and I keep getting an LOL car, it looks cool and changes colour but it won't be all the colours at once which is key.
I'm thinking something like this bus but in a car. www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B084GQD45C/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_93RKW2SNQ8PAQ1CBQ780?psc=1&_encoding=UTF8&tag=mumsnetforu03-21

No luck so far, it can be cheap or expensive, big or small he won't care but rainbow!!

I’m genuinely shocked there isn’t an equivalent car but having searched for a while I haven’t found one. A rainbow car poppit might be nice stocking filler www.ebay.co.uk/itm/334082495912?var=543091778532&hash=item4dc8de55a8:g:7~8AAOSwvr9gropn

There is also a van with a rainbow on www.ebay.co.uk/itm/324914062398

But I think I would have to buy a plain wooden car and paint it…

Explain to him that the elves will have already made the bike and if he changes his mind now they will be mightily pissed off and they may just substitute it with a piece of coal.

Perhaps also tell him that Santa has now introduced a 25% re-stocking (!) charge, in line with many on-line retailers.

One of the things I told my children was that Father Christmas had so many children to go to that sometimes by the time he got to our house he might have run out of the toy they wanted, but that he would bring something else instead. Chances are he won't remember what he asked for anyway!

If you are no good at painting why not buy a plain car and get some coloured vinyl wrap from Ebay...the sort people use for car wrapping...and cut out strips of appropriate rainbow colours. You could then start at the bonnet, go over top of the car and continue over the boot.

I stand corrected on a 4yo not noticing the difference between a taxi and a racing car Grin I don't think mine would care but on reflection he might still notice. He's not vehicle obsessed though.

Oh and the reason you can't find a racing car with rainbows on it is that cars are "for boys" and rainbows are "for girls" (and gays) apparently 🙄 It's because of all the bullshit gendered marketing.

I asked Santa for a horse and various other impossible to get/unaffordable/ inappropriate things. Don't recall any huge disappointment on the day when they didn't materialise (except one stuffed toy fox I was passionate about, I didn't get it - out of my parents budget - and I still want it)!
Unless this is something he has gone on and on and on about I'd ignore it.

LemonDrizzles · 05/12/2021 09:40

So a few things, print off a photo of the bike and say, whoops this is what you sent to Santa on your child's behalf. Then say you saw a news story many years ago about Santa's workshop but it was so secretive and you think he can make plain wooden things last minute so he might be able to bring a wooden car and some rainbow coloured paint.

Ps the photo of our Santa request was printed in October!

All the best

I would buy some rainbow washi tape and put that on a white car…..good luck!

Do you have a Bobby car?

@ThatParent
No we don't, but good idea, thanks!
DS was very specific, it has to have a back seat with a seat belt for her Grin
