We like: exploding kittens, Dobble, One night werewolf, carcassone, blokus and Love letters. Looking for something new for this Christmas.

Thanks.

My teens are younger, but we like quite a few of the games on your list and also enjoy Ticket to Ride, the Taskmaster boardgame, Sushi Go. Also, they really like playing poker.

@maofteens

Scrawl looks like a rip off of Pictionary which is great.
It's not as stressful as Pictionary (which I do like, too)

It goes picture - written description of picture - picture of description and so on until it gets back to the person who drew what was on the original card. A bit like a picture / written version of what used to be called Chinese Whispers when I was a child in the 70s (Google tells me that 'broken telephone' describes the same game in a non racist way)

Big games - Catan, Pandemic, Seven Wonders

Smaller games - Forbidden Island/Desert, Port Royal, Lost Cities

Also we like Exit the Game escape room games.

@HaroldSteptoesHorse

Monopoly.. oldie but brilliant
Agree. Tried the much recommended Ticket to Ride a couple of years ago and found it dull as dishwater. Tried it with 2,3,5 players and different ages and noone enjoyed it.

We got Mega Monopoly last year and everyone enjoyed it. The cheaters edition also went down well when it came out a couple of years ago.

Also love another oldie - Uno, but never enjoyed Exploding Kittens.

Monopoly Deal was a good small card game.

Can anyone recomend a game that works well for just 3 people? Lots of the good ones are team games, so we never get round to playing them.

ruthypfdraper · 04/12/2021 11:27

Carcassone - no two games the same
Goat Lords - lots of fun, competitive card game
The Mind - addictive collaborative simple game
Patchwork (two player)

Also second Azul - the tiles are lovely to handle and lots of strategy

ruthypfdraper · 04/12/2021 11:28

Ah sorry you have carcassone! Get an extension pack. We like the tower one.

CornishGem1975 · 04/12/2021 13:47

Loving these recommendations.

Got Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza in my basket, and am toying with Throw Throw Burrito.

dottiedodah · 04/12/2021 14:19

Still love Monopoly /Cluedo sort of thing. Also had a game called "pass the Bomb "? "bomb" ticking away and you have to think of as many words as poss before it goes off!

mycatscausehell · 04/12/2021 14:55

cat chaos, or canine chaos if youre dog people

Three is a common number, most of the games mentioned on this thread are fine for three.

The thing to watch out for is whether a game is only for two, or not suitable for two, as this issue crops up often.

If you Google the games they have an image usually which says number of players, ages, and playing time.

We get a new game every Christmas. A couple of years ago it was cards against humanity which is great with us because we all have the same slightly dark sense of humour. Last year it was brain fart and this year it’s going to be debatable

Porridgeislife · 04/12/2021 15:59

Can’t recommend Phase 10 enough (grown up Uno).

It’s based on rummy. Really fun as the same game can be played over a few nights and it gets quite strategic/heated when people start using the skip cards.

I've bought Ticket to Ride London after these suggestions so hope it's good!

Galvantula · 04/12/2021 21:54

Adding to votes for
Throw throw Burrito

And my kids love Ghost Blitz

A good cooperative one is Bandido.

Ragwort · 04/12/2021 21:55

I love Quirkle too Hello, we are very traditional - Monopoly, Cluedo, Careers, Rummikub ... we also play a lot of cards, Whist, Sevens etc ... DH keen for us all to play Bridge this Christmas but it's years since I played.

Ragwort · 04/12/2021 21:55

Anyone know Scattergories? Is it any good?

Gladioli23 · 04/12/2021 22:01

I'm pretty much going to second things in this thread...

I enjoyed Sushi Go when I played it with friends (think they had the "Party" which has more sub games).

Also ticket to ride and pandemic (co-operative so might be fun for the person wanting games for three?)

Fluxx is also excellent, I love how the game changes as you play it: essentially the rules are constantly changing and it's great fun.

I play and enjoy dobble and Carcassonne and the same friends have also recommended exploding kittens so I think these might fit the bill.

peaceanddove · 04/12/2021 22:25

Definitely Cards Against Humanity. A bit old school now, but simply hilarious. We played it over the Summer with friends and assorted teens (all 17+) and I laughed so much that I strained my recent muscle repair that I'd had as part of my tummy tuck. Was really sore for several days afterwards Grin
