A nice wallet about £25ish?

Looking for a new wallet for DS (21).

He's hard to buy for, I will be giving mostly cash, but I noticed his wallet was looking worse for wear. He's not into designers so no point going down that route but I would like something of reasonable quality. Probably black or grey, he doesn't like anything flash or showy.

Anyone come across anything or recommend a make to look at?

My husband has a fossil wallet that has lasted a few years.. depends if he prefers leather or material?

Asos do some lovely wallets. They have loads of different brands but they’re own brand ones are really lovely quality and low cost.

Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies · 03/12/2021 04:18

TK Maxx? They normally have a good selection of wallets for about that.

Next have a good range at that price

BasiliskStare · 03/12/2021 04:43

DS has a john Lewis own brand leather wallet which has lasted forever. No big name branding but decent quality and not terribly expensive

When buying wallets be aware a lot of them don't hold coins, which my DH finds annoying. This gets good reviews www.amazon.co.uk/Visconti-Gents-Leather-Collection-Wallet/dp/B00DJ5PBQQ/ref=sr_1_58?keywords=wallets%2Bwith%2Bcoin%2Bpocket&th=1&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&qid=1638513180&sr=8-58

BarbaraofSeville · 03/12/2021 07:22

That's a really good point @goose1964. The design and facilities of the wallet needs to be suitable for the user.

When I read the OP, my first thought was that I was surprised that someone that age actually used a wallet at all, as many people are now completely cash free and pay for everything with a phone or watch, but even if that's not the OPs DS, then you'd think about what he puts in his wallet, is it just cards and notes, or would he want coins too - many men put coins in their pockets so they can rattle them in an annoying manner and also destroy the pocket liner

DP also needs a new wallet as his is probably about 15-20 years old and literally falling apart, but when he looks, he can't always find a design he likes, which would need to contain a coin pocket.

That one you've linked is very similar to his existing wallet, so would probably fit the bill. It's also a good price, because if he does find one he likes, he'll complain about the cost, and appears to be surprised that things have got more expensive in the last 20 years Grin

How does he uses a wallet? I downgraded mine recently, moved cards to apps, keep debit/credit card in the phone cover and just use a tiny one for notes/coins and two cards I can't do online/company credit card.

I would think most people your DS' age would be virtually cashless by now.

I think mine is a fossil, finally small enough to fit in a back pocket of my jeans. I think DH originally bought it to fit in a handbag I take with me when I go out.

Lots of good points about how he uses it and lovely suggestions.

He's very quiet and doesn't go out much. He's a student and I know he keeps his bank cards, ID cards, train pass etc in it. I noticed it was worn as he dropped me off and he'd popped his wallet in the centre console bit. He was either popping to the shop or being a good boy and not being out in the car without his wallet and phone like he's been told even though he wasn't going far.

He doesn't really engage much with people and I'm pretty sure he uses self service with his bank card.

Get one that is similar to the one he has

Iamnotamermaid · 03/12/2021 08:28

Try Cotswold outdoor shop if you are after more non leather wallet.

PigletJohn · 03/12/2021 09:36

I have a Visconti, they make quite a range. Prices usually similar at multiple outlets

Important point is that some people like a billfold, I like a breast wallet (lies flatter in a jacket pocket and holds an adequate number of cards). Will also fit in leg pockets. I don't know anywhere a billfold will fit without causing unsightly bulges.

Some will not fit a £50 note, which is bigger than a £20.

Some people (I) don't want to put coins in them.

Justguessing · 03/12/2021 09:37

How about an I-Clip wallet? www.i-clip.com/

They start at around £30 and are a neat way of storing cards and notes.

PigletJohn · 03/12/2021 09:41

Pickpockets like a wallet in your back pocket.

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 03/12/2021 09:42

I'd second Next, they have them for £25 and they are very good quality for the price.
