Having tried to send books and failed ( buying in aus) I wondered if anyone could reccomend any lovely chocolate places who would deliver? Thanks!

Great tip about Haighs - looking for something (actually many things) for my Australian relatives!

There is Amazon.com.au now if you are not avoiding, and last year I sent everyone except the kids tea stuff from T2.

I used to pick out gifts and send packages myself but now there is no duty allowance for gifts it feels too risky.

Haighs chocolate is rank though, especially if your relatives are used to European chocolate. Really it's not nice. (You can send chocolate from here - my mam tips a box of Cadbury's roses into a mailing box for my brother every Christmas alongside a jumper and a Christmas decoration 😂 )

HOWEVER the Haighs chocolate chip cookies are hands down the best thing I've ever tasted.

I've bought gifts from Amazon.com.au but I'd say be careful of the shipping times; the set of Wimpy Kid books for my bff's son were despatched from India. Books IN Australia are expensive and hard to come by when buying from abroad.

As for other gifts, I know Joules does international shipping for £16 which is really reasonable and as it's couriered, a large package is delivered within a week.

If they like to cook, The Essential Ingredient does gift hampers and they are actually super super friendly if you need to make any changes to the delivery. There's a store in Prahran market I think (it's a distant memory but I vaguely remember nice knives, beautiful chopping/serving boards and delicious preserves as well as lovely truffle sauces and things).

I ordered a gift hamper from the Sydney store, fucked up the address and when I emailed in a panic because it was $120 of a gift, they said they'd send it out with the warehouse driver and just tell him the right address rather than let it go through the post. It was delivered that morning!

Koko Black has the best chocolates I have ever tasted!
A bit expensive but soooo good!

chatw0o0 · 02/12/2021 03:08

Seconding Koko Black. Pricey but has great packaging and unusual flavours.

Try colab pantry - lots of great stuff there

Mrbob · 02/12/2021 03:13

It’s summer. Sending British chocolate without the anti melting stuff in it is not the best idea!
If they live in Australia they will be used to our chocolate and Haighs is good.
I have always loved T2 but now it’s been bought out by Unilever Sad

I live in Melbourne! Haighs is amazing!!!! And a really nice treat. Koko black is really good, but ridiculously expensive. The great ocean road chocolaterie is quite good, and they have a lot of interesting things.

If you want to send books then the Australian Amazon is great and very fast. Otherwise big w.

I like Koko Black and Monsieur Truffe, which I might like just a bit more Grin

Haighs is amazing! Not sure why you think it's not, and I've tried loads of European chocolate.

Do NOT send Cadbury from the UK. It tastes different from the Australian version and so would taste very odd, and high chance of melting on its way over.

There are quite a few artisan chocolatiers in Melbourne if you wanted.

Thank you so much for your help! I tried booktopia but have had delivery issues.

Haighs is amazing, it’s my favourite time of year when my delivery comes from Australia from relatives.

Nice hampers here

Not sure if they have a specifically chocolate one though!
