What present would be "equivalent" to a bike?

Twins. One needs a new bike. One doesn't (as had a hand me down from a sibling)
We have sourced one from
eBay but not sure what is as "big ticket" an item
Ideas gratefully received 😩

I think we need their age & interest to be able to make suggestions.

Hellocatshome · 30/11/2021 17:32

If one gets a hand me down bike surely the other then can't get a bike for Christmas. Otherwise 1 twin has had a bike albeit second hand and a Christmas present and the other twin has just had a bike.

I agree with this. Either they both get a bike, regardless of source, and also Christmas presents, or they both get the bikes for Christmas.
RedHot22 · 30/11/2021 17:37

They have both got a 2nd hand bike so I don’t see the problem really.

Personally, I wouldn’t give them as Christmas presents but as an ‘extra’ even if it means they have less at Christmas

Equimum · 30/11/2021 17:37

Sell the hand-me-down and get them both a 'new to the family' bike, chosen specifically for them.

ldontWanna · 30/11/2021 17:42

@batmanladybird what is the other twin into? Is there anything for him that also needs replaced ?

00100001 · 30/11/2021 17:47

Unless twin 1 got the bike as a gift for her birthday, why would the second twin receive a bike as a present?

I'd be tempted to do either

  1. give twin 2 bike asap, and then get them both something for Christmas that is equivalent to each other. Eg a ticket to a show each.

  2. do as PP suggests, sell hand me down, and buy them both new to them bikes.

Dt1 doesn't want a new bike. There are a choice of bikes from siblings.

Dt2 does

They are 8 (girls)

Space hopper?

SpeckledHen266 · 30/11/2021 17:49

Or perhaps a pogo stick? Stilts?

GoodVibesHere · 30/11/2021 17:50

Scooter
Skateboard
Roller skates

DoucheCanoe · 30/11/2021 17:50

What does the other one want?

My 9yo DD has asked for a go kart this year. Maybe something like that for outdoors?

NerrSnerr · 30/11/2021 17:51

We're getting our eldest a bike and youngest is getting a drum kit.

BeaLola · 30/11/2021 17:58

Depends what she is into ?

Craft table fully kitted out
Skateboard and accessories

PennyWus · 30/11/2021 18:15

Depends what she likes.eg

Roller blades and pads
Beginners Sewing machine and supplies
Big Lego set
Robot you can programme yourself

EmJay19 · 30/11/2021 18:27

Skippit thingy?

sidsgranny · 30/11/2021 18:40

What would DT1 like? Has she mentioned anything?

snugglyblanket · 30/11/2021 19:18

If you have a games console already then a game to go with it. Something that works for either just 1 player or can be single or multiplayer so she has the choice to play alone or with siblings (DS7's request this year)
A musical instrument
Karaoke machine
Lego set
Handheld console, a DS or similar

What does dt1 like? My dd (9) is getting a hair styling head and tripod with accessories as she loves trying out new styles on her barbies! She's also getting a giant Blue dinosaur too from family 🤣

Dd1 at that age would have loved a huge cuddly toy, box of figures or lots of little bits. She's not one for 'big' gifts.

Otherwise going on outdoor type activities - metal detector? Scooter? Pogo stick? Box of games like skipping rope, tennis bats, balls etc. Giant jenga for the garden.

I got my (then) 8 year old sister a full artist’s set.
Easel, oil paints, water colours, brushes, large paper pads, canvases, sketch pad, sketching pencils, “How to” instruction book, mixing palette…
She was into arts and crafts and absolutely loved it.

Talipesmum · 30/11/2021 19:50

We went for big comfy swivel chair.

LtGreggs · 30/11/2021 20:01

A tent

Goldbar · 30/11/2021 21:27

I wouldn't get an equivalent gift for DT1 but one which was 'half equivalent' (not sure how to say this better). DT1 will still have a bike, just not as flashy as DT2's.

Something like moon shoes?

Talipesmum · 30/11/2021 22:34

@LtGreggs

A tent
This is a great idea. This is an excellent kids tent - it’s the same ours used at scouts. We have it - easy to put up, plenty of space for two, nice little porch area.
