Please help!
Situation where if he wants something, he just buys it. Same as me really. Main hobby is tools /DIY but he has literally ever tool under the sun spilling out of the garage. He's a hands on guy. Never wants foody related things although I will get him a chocolate orange.

Totally stuck!

I’m really stuck this year too - although we have agreed to just buy token gifts because neither of us have any clue!
Last night I ordered him a UFC Venum tshirt but that’s it Confused
I looked at Japanese Whiskeys (seem to be a thing and he likes whiskey) but to be honest I don’t know where to start and he’d probably prefer his usual so back to square one - sorry - not helpful

Pegasussnail · 30/11/2021 08:03

I'm getting mine wireless bud headphones. He'd use them for talking on the phone and listening to music (he also likes diy)
Also clothes.

mightbeyesmightbeno · 30/11/2021 08:12

@Pegasussnail great idea but 2 moths too late - got bud earphones for his birthday and he loved them / uses all the time! Maybe he needs a spare pair 🤔😂

@snowmanshoes My DS, who thinks he is a bit if a whisky connoisseur, says Japanese whisky is over rated. The specialist whisky shop in our town agrees. There are much better Scotch whiskies available. Find a decent wines and spirits store, tell them which type of whisky your OH usually likes and they should be able to advise according to your budget.
I hate whisky and know nothing about it but have had many discussions with the guys in the whisky shop to choose gifts for both DS & DH who love single malts.

Sn0tnose · 30/11/2021 08:38

What about a day in a blacksmiths forge? They aren’t cheap, so it might be above your budget, but would include the things he likes doing.

Or some steel toe capped boots? Or a leather apron? There are some really nice ones out there now.

Or welding lessons?

Where does he keep all of his tools? Does he need storage? Maybe some of those metal shelving units?

Evening classes in woodwork?

I would highly recommend an Ooni pizza oven. I got one for my DH a couple of years ago.

There are still some Black Friday offers going on.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 30/11/2021 08:50

Last year I got DH a tasting box from Master of Malt (plus a Japanese whiskey miniature as he was curious).

He likes his with ice so a few years before I got him the Whisky Wedge glass. According to him it gives the perfect mix of cooling and watering down..

snowmanshoes · 30/11/2021 08:51

@bigbluebus ahh thanks - had a feeling it wouldn’t be the right thing to do! Cheers for the heads up!

Forgothowmuchlhatehomeschoolin · 30/11/2021 08:52

I feel your pain op.
Bought dh a wine making kit last year cos he wanted one but it is still sat on the kitchen worktop.
Not buying stuff for the sake of it this year!

RuleOfCat · 30/11/2021 09:04

I would agree with Snotnose about getting him an experience rather than an object - a day in a forge sounds great. A few years back I bought DH a quad bike offroad session, he loved it.

MrsHGWells · 30/11/2021 09:05

For whisky / Gin connoisseurs, spherical ice maker, whiskey stones .. honestly take the DH back to the Stone /ice Age primal needs.

Whisky crystal glasses set. whisky display cabinet.
Sexton do a fabulous whisky.

LED lighting for whisky display.

Pedicure treatment- most DH would never consider this. But make it a shared experience his and hers.

Full barber shave experience (steamed hot towels/ eyebrow /nose trim - they all grow hair - get it dealt with professionally.

Martinisarebetterdirty · 30/11/2021 09:09

I got DP a day in a forge, he loved it but was knackered at the end of it Grin
He does like Japanese whisky though, hibiki is a favourite, and we’ve been on Japanese whisky tasting courses. I suppose it comes down to personal taste as he likes Scottish whisky too.

sashh · 30/11/2021 09:10

How about a welding course, or a day as a blacksmith?

www.craftcourses.com/categories/metal/welding?page=2

There are also leather work, jewelry making and other crafts.

He could potentially make his own tools.

KeeefBurtain · 30/11/2021 09:18

Mine seems quite boring in comparison

His favourite film is 2001: a space odyssey so Ive bought him the book series that goes with it, a few Lego sets and some odd socks. We have a £100 limit so I’ll probably get a few sweets to make it up.

UniBallEye · 30/11/2021 15:49

I got dh an Ooni pizza oven last year and it was a HUGE hit! He has perfected pizzas now. And it was such a great distraction during lockdown too.

This year I am getting him a Sage coffee machine and some nice coffee

I recently bought him some Japanese whiskey and he likes it, he generally drinks Scottish or Irish, single malt.

Over the past few years we have started doing stockings for each other and this year I have his favourite aftershave / shower gel, small bottle of port, beer, pork scratchings, a moleskin notebook, retractable pencil, wasabi nuts and socks in his. There might be room for 1 or 2 more small things....

He got clay pigeon shooting another year which he loved.

Proudboomer · 30/11/2021 15:53

Does he enjoy gardening?
If so a japeto Japanese hori hori gardening set
