I help run a playgroup and we are having a Christmas party this week (more for the parents as a lot don't work so won't get an office do!)
We are making food and stuff and have a tree and a children's christmas cd but can anyone think of anything activities we can do? The ages range from 10 weeks to 25 months...

I am going to cut some stars and trees out of white card for crayoning/decorating and we have ribbon to make them into decorations and we have asked everyone to bring a wrapped pressie for their own child for the end but can't think of anything else we can do!

what about disco lights?

Doesn't have to be an expensive one - but a £5 one from woolies. IME kiddies love crawling/toddling round trying to catch them.

What about some shakers/bells and play them while singing xmas songs?

make a big batch of biscuits in the shapes of stars and christmas trees and let the children decorate them with icing and sprinkles.

What about calendars with their hand prints on??

ChirpyGrinch · 16/12/2007 20:58

We have shakers and drums etc for our normal music time but I like the light idea, shall have a google to check prices!

Calenders is a good idea but we don't have much cash! I could do the biscuits though, what would I do, just have bowls of icing and decorations out?

I don't think the cheaper ones will be bright enough loooking at them as we don';t have curtains for the windows so it stays really bright...

calendar tabs are only 10p in places like the works. other than that you just need plain card and paint to make the handprint calendars...

bonkerzaboutxmas · 16/12/2007 21:23

we are sticking santa letters using toy pages from catalogues then when santa comes the children can give the letters to him!

tassisssss · 16/12/2007 21:26

we had a bubble machine at our toddler party and a parachute - both were big hits

other than that pass the parcel, christmas crafts (i have a great template for making angels out of paper plates), music for dancing and lots of party food and you'll be sorted.

do remember to take out some of your usual toys/baby equipment as the wee ones just won't get it!

enjoy and remember to take your camera!

just put out bowls of icing and sprinkles, you can just buy a packet of rich tea biscuits if you dont have time to make them.

I did have a poem that went with the calendars, hang on will have a look see if I can find it.

FOUND IT!!
You dont have to do it as calendars you could just print the poem off in the middle of an a4 page and just get the children to put their hand prints on it.

There used to be so many
Of my finger prints to see
On furniture and walls and things
From sticky, grubby me.

But if you stop and think awhile
You?ll see I?m growing fast
These little moments disappear
You can?t bring back the past.

So here is a small reminder
To keep, not throw away
Of tiny hands and how they looked
To make you smile someday.

ninewurlysdancing · 16/12/2007 21:40

tho the calendars are quite cheap here

ChirpyGrinch · 16/12/2007 21:46

That's so cute!
I might just print that off a few times and we can decoirate them ,thanks

[bfing typing, sorry]
