Boil and then roast ham and we have sprouts and chestnuts and, although I'm sure it's not de riguer we have parsnips aswell.
But we are greedy gits in this house.

pantoinghousewife · 16/12/2007 20:40

By that I meant we boil the ham for the alloted time and then pour a bit of honey on it and shove it in the oven for 30 mins.

Wheelybahhumbug · 16/12/2007 20:45

will be doing carrots and bean dish, sprouts, red cabbage, roast pots, roast parsnips (carrots/beans, sprouts, cabbage prepped day before).

Ham in coke a la nigella. Can't be beaten.

Quattrocento · 16/12/2007 20:46

"do you roast or boil your ham?"

Neither - I buy it. Saves time ...

Lapsedrunner · 16/12/2007 20:48

Red cabbage, buy it ready made IYSWIM. Ham...???, we have that for Christmas Eve or Boxing Day. It needs to be boiled first and then roasted, check out Delia Smith online

Lapsedrunner · 16/12/2007 20:49

Oh yes.................roast parsnips are essential.....yum, yum

MingMingtheWonderPet · 16/12/2007 20:56

Made my stuffing roll today and put it in the freezer - looks yummy and was really easy (from Good Food magazine - december issue)
Also wrapped sausages in bacon and put then in freezer.
December Good Food has a good recipe for red cabbage, but Waitrose didn't have any red cabbage today!
I like to prepare as much as I can ahead of Xmas day, so I only really have to cook turkey and pots on Xmas day - rest is all prepared.

Wiehnachstmarkt · 16/12/2007 20:59

Oh MMThe WPet ...I've also planned the Good Food stuffing roll !!

MingMingtheWonderPet · 16/12/2007 21:00

Wie - Forgot to put the egg in mine, but it all bound together ok so I'm guessing all is ok. It looks great.
Give it a go - very easy.

Oh yes red cabbage too but I do mine in the slow cooker.

Magrat · 16/12/2007 21:09

my first time too

am planning on
roast potatoes
roast parsnips
carrot batons
sprouts and chestnuts
red cabbage and onion

plus bread sauce and cranberry sauce

Magrat · 16/12/2007 21:10

delia says that red cabbage can be done day before and re-heated (or even frozen before)

Sidge · 16/12/2007 21:14

We do roast spuds, cabbage, rotkohl (German recipe for red cabbage, totally lush), carrots, broccoli and cauliflower.

We boil our ham in Coke (can't remember where we got that one from but my god it's luvverly) and have it late on Christmas Day with cheese, crackers and pickles.

TutterrysChocolateOrange · 16/12/2007 21:46

thnaks all

red cabbage it is

If you have a Lidl near you they do jars of Rotkohl which are lovely, and a lot less hassle than making your own
