Nice Christmas music that is not pop music?

What does everyone listen to on Christmas Day/Boxing Day? I'm looking for something a bit different this year, rather than the usual Christmas pop music (which I do enjoy but it gets done to death by the day itself!) or even the classics like Bing and Frank etc.

Any suggestions?

Jamie Cullum, The Piano an at Christmas.

I also live Wrapped in Red by Kelly Clarkson.

Actually I like Michael buble at Xmas, it’s the only time I do like him 😂

I generally put him on, in a passive aggressive act, when I want everyone to wake up and open their pressies ..

John Rutter’s carols are beautiful. Some lovely compilations out there

Carboncheque · 29/11/2021 13:48

Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Bing Crosby …

I love "A Tapestry of Carols" by Maddy Prior & the Carnival Band.
It's streaming on Amazon but I have the CD anyway.

Also can't resist belting out Gaudete the Steeleye Span version.

I can only think of one non-pop piece (as I'm a pop addict), but it's a cracker: Carol of the Bells. I like pretty much every version I've heard but my favourite is probably by the Handel and Haydn Society. Pentatonix do a good version too!

Definitely John Rutter - especially the Christmas Overture.

Scala radio is doing a full schedule of Christmas music. Will be a mix of carol/secular music, music from movie soundtracks, classical covers of pop songs, songs from musicals etc. Very relaxing and a nice mixture. Its on channel 0216 on Sky or you can get it on a DAB radio or smart speaker

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 29/11/2021 14:08

I love a brass or silver band, but I live in the heart of “Brassed Off” country.

And Carols from Kings of course.

Moonlaserbearwolf · 29/11/2021 14:13

John Rutter!
It's hard to get more Christmassy - i challenge you to listen to Donkey carol and not want to trot round the room Grin

ninecoronas · 29/11/2021 14:26

The soundtrack to "A Charlie Brown Christmas". It's the most Christmassy thing you'll ever hear!

idontlikealdi · 29/11/2021 14:27

Buble. The only
Time I would countenance it!

peboh · 29/11/2021 14:28

Once dd is in bed and dh and I are just chilling, I usually put on some piano covers of christmas music, or acoustic versions. Just really soothing.

QueefofSheena · 29/11/2021 14:33

My Christmas music is always the Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings Christmas album and Mahalia Jackson singing Christmas songs. That voice on Sweet little Jesus Boy! I’m not religious but it’s very stirring. Also Tom Waits, but everyone else hates that.

lunarlandscape · 29/11/2021 14:33

My normally super-cool and fashionable sons insisted I buy the Bublé album last year as 'you have to have it on at Christmas.'

I like Christmassy classical music - Winter by Vivaldi, Nutcracker Suite and Prokoviev's Troika and Classical symphonies as well as carols from Kings' Choir Cambridge.

Tori Amos's festive album Midwinter Graces is lovely (IMO). She put out another festive EP a couple of years ago called Christmastide.

Pieceofpurplesky · 29/11/2021 14:54

She and Him's Christmas Album is fabulous

Grapesoda7 · 29/11/2021 15:01

Try Phil Spector's Christmas album.
