Hot chocolate recommendations (not a station!)

Husband likes hot chocolate. Not flavoured, not with cream or marshmallows or anything, just a nice hot chocolate. We don't need a velvetiser as we have both a thermomix and a milk frother that will do the job equally well, but I would like to get him some nice hot chocolate as a stocking filler that could be made in either of the above.

Are the Hotel Chocolat sachets the way to go or is there something nicer?

Lakeland do Chocolat Charbonnel Luxury Hot Drinking Chocolate Flakes 300g for £5.99 - absolutely divine!

evilharpy · 29/11/2021 12:59

Oh good shout @Inquisitivearchitect and there's a Lakeland nearby, I'll pop in, thanks!

Knoops my DH is a massive hit chocolate fan and he swears that @
Knoops is the best he has ever had.

I really like the Spanish style thick hot chocolate. You can buy it on Amazon or from delis.

YouDoIDo · 29/11/2021 13:03

I was going to say the Lakeland one it lovley 😋also Wittard do nice hot chocolate as do Fortnum and Mason both reasonably priced (for a one off prezzie)

I have this Clipper one on subscribe and save on Amazon as my DD has one a day! For an instant one to make with hot water it’s lovely. She finds the posh ones you make by melting chocolate flakes into milk a little too rich. They do smaller tubs of course Grin

@downtonupton Knoops is the best hot chocolate I have ever tasted, whenever friends come to stay it is also the first place they want to go.

Sn0tnose · 29/11/2021 18:58

We’ve just tried Pendragon Black Forest chocolate flakes which is very nice. More cherry flavoured than any other, but definitely Black Forest flavour if you drink it while you’ve got a square of Dairy Milk in your mouth.

I had a cup of Knoops in Brighton (soya milk and a milk choclate with almonds -like a liquid Toblerone )
I bought a tub of the 72% , it is very rich , not sweet even with soya milk.

Might dry a bar of Hotel Chocolat/Selector and grate it in the food pro till I find the mix I like .

I've just bought a milk frother Xmas Grin.

Another for Knoops! 😋 Has anyone tried their marshmallows? I haven't yet but wondering if they're worth getting?

rrhuth · 29/11/2021 19:06

I make my own hot chocolate stirrers which are melted chocolate mixed with cocoa, they are delicious. You can add other stuff/flavours if you want.

rrhuth · 29/11/2021 19:07

And M&S vegan marshmallows have been a revelation as I did miss marshamllows but most vegan ones are £££.

biteysaurus · 29/11/2021 19:16

Knoops marshmallows are outstanding, best I've ever had

herestoyoucolinrobinson · 29/11/2021 19:23

@rrhuth I just discovered the marshmallows last week and I’m really regretting only buying 1 pack! They were great.

Wrinklyeyes · 29/11/2021 20:09

I ordered Knoops last year - and their marshmallows - after a recommendation on here. Found them both totally tasteless. Had to add so much of the chocolate to get any taste, the whole pot only made about 2 cups.

Can’t beat Charbonnel&Walker chocolate flakes.

This sounds lovely, kind of makes me wish I liked chocolate!
