Christmas just DP and me ideas

DP and I will be having Christmas day as just the two of us and our two rescue kittens. Family are a few hours away and we aren’t ready to leave kittens with a cat sitter just yet so it’ll be a quiet one at home (again after last year!)

Any suggestions for making a couples Christmas special?

The best thing about it being just the two of you is that you can cook anything you like. Me and my partner don’t have kids and aren’t traditionalists so when we’re at home (and not hosting) we usually have something indulgent and non-traditional for lunch like fillet steak or beef wellington. Lots of fizz and a good pud, a nice walk in the morning (maybe a trip to the pub before lunch!), new pjs to wear and something good to watch on the telly. Last year we went for a run first thing in the morning, most people said we were crazy but it was such a good way to start the day!

DH and I are going through IVF and having Christmas day at home this year (usually we would need to visit his / my family). We're getting a turkey from a lovely farm shop. We've not decided on pudding yet. Probably a delicious cheesecake or something. I'm planning to order some posh chocolates that we won't have to share with anyone.
I think we will also have a walk in the morning. I like the idea of a drin at the pub on our way. I'm hoping there will be something good on telly we can save to watch in the afternoon.

Games for 2 like backgammon, FaceTime some family/friends (you could have a quiz) making complicated cocktails/cocktail competition, beach walk if one within 30 mins, midnight mass night before

We have had a few Christmas days on our own. Sometimes we get dinner from a local restaurant the day before, to warm up, instead of cooking from scratch. Or M&S food. Neither of us particularly enjoy cooking or a big Christmas dinner so prefer something handy. Go for a walk, watch films, eat a lot of snacks, wine and Irish Coffees. Phone calls with family. Fire lit, cosy candles. We really enjoy it as a day off from the norm, even though we could replicate it any Sunday, it is more peaceful somehow

How lovely! I’d start with an early morning run, home for a shower and a lovely breakfast. Out for a walk taking in a pub on the way (if open!) for a swift refreshment. Home for a fire, open presents, cook some kind of nice dinner, film and chocolates !6 the fire. Bliss!
Have a lovely day however you spend it.

Have food and drinks in that you both enjoy and allow you to have a relaxed day.

Don't rush in the morning - get up when you want.

Have things for a lovely breakfast together.

Plan on getting outdoors for part of the day - a good walk somewhere or bike ride if you both cycle etc. There may be Christmas Day runs or swims local to you to join in with.

Decide when you are opening your presents - we always do that in the afternoon. It breaks up the day a bit more.

I also always have a good book that I'd like to read over the break on hand, and some board games that we like.

Have a lovely meal planned for dinner that is a treat for you. Something that will take some effort to make, but not require all day slaving over the stove.

Have a look at the tv guide for good movies or specials you would enjoy, or plan to watch something streamed together.

Make calls to extended family.

And just take a slow, gentle day.

Me & DH always have the day just the 2 of us, we are having breakfast in bed with bucks fizz, will get up and open presents then get ready and have a lazy day. We have good steak and nice wine for dinner and a good cheese selection for later in the evening. In past years we've gone to a restaurant but were unsure about booking anything year just incase.

An enthusiastic bout of lovemaking before you eat and drink too much.
