Christmas breakfast(s)

Any suggestions for more savoury/less rich breakfasts over the Xmas period? We usually don't bother and just have toast or weetabix as normal but sometimes it's nice to have something different. Can't face anything too sweet or rich as breakfast will be around 9-10 and lunch around 3 so it's not like we need a full fry up...

We have bagels with smoked salmon.

Or you could do what I do for news years eve/day, which is to have kedgeree for dinner the night before, and reheated for breakfast the following morning.

We just have pancakes with bacon and maple syrup. Best breakfast of the year.

Lovelydovey · 28/11/2021 06:54

Pancakes
Scrambled / poached eggs on toast

catnidge · 28/11/2021 06:58

Toasted pannetone or a selection of frozen pastriies.
Waffles with Greek yoghurt and fruit

DockOTheBay · 28/11/2021 06:58

We usually have croissants or pancakes.

If you don't want sweet then just nice crusty loaf with butter or other toppings. You can buy from the shop on Xmas eve and refresh in the oven.

Honeymint · 28/11/2021 07:09

Someone suggested a slice of panettone worth butter on another thread and I love the idea.

Bacon sandwiches are nice and low effort. Also my mum usually puts some croissants on and we have them with butter.

It you like cereal but want something festive you could make your own granola with cinnamon toasted pecans and dried cranberries.

SFisnotsimple · 28/11/2021 07:14

DD and I make a Kringle loaf Christmas Eve and leave it to prove overnight , baking it and decorating Christmas morning. We don't use much icing and it's not as sweet as panettone or cinnamon buns but still v festive and yum.

User5252727 · 28/11/2021 07:15

Croissant with scrambled egg

Minceandonions · 28/11/2021 07:16

We do blinis (shop bought) with shreds of smoked salmon and a little blob of creme freich with lemon and dill. It's very fresh and light tasting, but feels special. We serve 4 per person, but you could also just do a big sharing platter of them.

ExcessiveIyDisorganised · 28/11/2021 07:18

We have freshly baked cinnamon buns and croissants, I usually have toast or porridge the rest of the year so it makes a nice change.

scatteredglitter · 28/11/2021 07:24

Home made granola with greek yogurt and lots of nice fruit

maofteens · 28/11/2021 07:26

My everyday breakfast is smoked salmon and egg with tomatoes. You could make that a bit fancier in its presentation and add nice bread.
Our Christmas morning breakfast, as we have Christmas meal about 4-4.30, is french toast with bacon and maple syrup. Though my son will probably stick to his unsweetened porridge with soya milk and egg whites 🤢.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 28/11/2021 07:26

croissants

bit later smoked salmon scrambled eggs bagels

Twizbe · 28/11/2021 07:29

We have croissants. A real treat.

howdidigettobe50something · 28/11/2021 07:29

We have smoked salmon and scrambled eggs with avocado and sourdough toast.

DiamondBright · 28/11/2021 07:32

I'm thinking panettone french toast this year with maple syrup. I've bought two large panettone (in part for the nice tins) I'm thinking one will be Christmas Day breakfast and the other a bread and butter pudding maybe Christmas Eve night.

TweenWrangler · 28/11/2021 07:34

We have smoked salmon bagels on Christmas Day, kedgeree on Boxing Day and a full English one other day. Other options: Nigella's crowd croque monseuir Bake is great and can be made with the festive ham, croissants and coffee, crispy bacon with avocado smash and sourdough.

bellabride · 28/11/2021 07:39

Asda Christmas tree crumpets.

Wellarentyouacleverdick · 28/11/2021 07:42

I do croissants and pain au chocolats with nice coffee for the grown ups and orange juice for the children. I buy the ones you roll out and bake on the morning, they're lovely. Easy to eat whilst the children open their presents too.
