Christmas breakfast(s)

Any suggestions for more savoury/less rich breakfasts over the Xmas period? We usually don't bother and just have toast or weetabix as normal but sometimes it's nice to have something different. Can't face anything too sweet or rich as breakfast will be around 9-10 and lunch around 3 so it's not like we need a full fry up...

Croissants with bacon and cheese melted inside

FireworkParrot · 28/11/2021 07:44

We have smoked salmon and cream cheese bagels as I don't like having anything sweet for breakfast on Christmas Day..... there'll be enough sweet stuff later. I do generally prefer savoury to sweet though for breakfast so am probably biased. The DC just have theirs with butter or perhaps the cream cheese if they don't fancy the salmon.

We've had the Christmas tree shaped crumpets before and they're great!

peboh · 28/11/2021 07:44

I usually do some bagels, with cream cheese and salmon and bacon butties. Then just put a couple pastries on the side (pain au chocolate, croissants) so if we fancy anything sweet it's there.

Butternutsqoosh · 28/11/2021 07:59

@maofteens porridge with egg whites?? 🤮 is he a gym bro?? Think I'll stick with bagels, cream cheese and smoked salmon with loads of lemon juice!

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 28/11/2021 08:05

We always get the Xmas tree or Santa Claus crumpets for Xmas morning.

Ginjanotaninja · 28/11/2021 08:05

Sherry trifle has been my Christmas day breakfast for a long time.

Hungry675tf · 28/11/2021 08:13

Fruit salad and Xmas tree crumpets.

I don't want anything too heavy, and it helps get something healthier into the kids before the food fest

Noeuf · 28/11/2021 08:17

This year I’m just going to have a fruit platter out - sliced kiwi, grapes, orange quarters, apple slices,

Singalongsingsong · 28/11/2021 08:19

Blinis with sour cream and smoked salmon and I do like a warm crumbly homemade sausage roll and mince pie for Christmas Day breakfast

Badabingbadabum · 28/11/2021 08:20

Croissants. It's what my dad always did for Christmas day breakfasts and I've carried it on. Savoury, filling, easy. Flakes of pastry end up everywhere though.

Shanda5 · 28/11/2021 08:33

We always have smoked salmon and scrambled eggs on toast with coffee/tea and fresh juices.

Followed by a bucks fizz.

The only day of the year where you can drink before 10am and noone bats an eyelid!

I like your style. In our house its usually chocolate.
GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 28/11/2021 08:35

We like smoked salmon bagels with Bucks Fizz.

SimpsonsXmasBoogie · 28/11/2021 08:37

Eggs Benedict style of thing?

Grilled asparagus with poached egg and plenty of grated parmesan and sea salt? There is definitely a specific name for this dish that has escaped me in this moment.

Spinningaround18 · 28/11/2021 08:52

We have croissants filled with ham and cheese then heated up - so yummy!

HalloHello · 28/11/2021 09:05

A fruit platter on Christmas morning! That's horrendous.

I'm thinking bacon and egg morning rolls, with croissants or pain au chocolat, good coffee, Clementine Juice and a Prosecco.

Whingasaurus · 28/11/2021 09:06

I always have a mimosa with a mimosa chaser

didireallysaythat · 28/11/2021 09:16

We are going to eat later in the day so don't need a big thing, so maybe croissants with ham is the way forward. I'm afraid I'd class panettone as sweet - I'd normally say croissants were sweet but the ham may offset it (DS1 won't fall for that one). I like the idea of a fruit bowl though.

We have lunch fairly early (1ish) so we generally do smoked salmon blinis and fruit with nice yogurt or kefir

languagelover96 · 28/11/2021 09:19

Crumpets
Scrambled eggs on toast
French bread and soup
A bowl of fruit on the side
Salmon bagels

Recycledblonde · 28/11/2021 09:20

We have kedgeree, I make it in advance and freeze it then heat it in the microwave. Strangely it doesn’t seem as heavy as a fry up or croissants etc.

WashableVelvet · 28/11/2021 09:21

French toast - no richer than a slice of toast and an egg. Smoked salmon, ham, bacon or fruit on top if you feel like it. A dusting of sugar or a bit of marmite (my fave!) if you want to keep it simple.

Iamanicepersonreally · 28/11/2021 09:22

Has to be pork pie for breakfast on Christmas Day

5thnonblonde · 28/11/2021 09:25

Soup? Pork pie?! These are wild breakfasts!

DH usually just has cereal and me and the kids have those baked jus rol croissants but I’m looking for tips too as I generally find this a bit too sweet and junky. I like the sound of Greek yoghurt and fruit but similar to pp’s DH is horrified are the suggestion ‘do they come down on Christmas morning in The Snowman to a nice fresh fruit salad? NO THEY DO NOT’

ExcessiveIyDisorganised · 28/11/2021 09:26

That's the nice thing about croissants, you could put out sweet and savoury things to go with them (I always have cheese, DH always has jam) then people can choose
