Hot Chocolate Station

Is anyone doing a hot chocolate station/bar this year?

What have you got on it? Pictures welcome! Grin

I'm in the process of putting mine together but it feels a bit underwhelming so looking for ideas!

I really fancy making some 'chocolate bombs' this Christmas, I've got a couple of different sizes of spherical molds. I'm thinking it's just instant hot chocolate and marshmallows inside the chocolate isn't it.

Pregnagainagain · 26/11/2021 00:35

I went to a friends where she had one of these, she had made the hot chocolate in a slow cooker so you could just help yourself to that at the perfect temperature

Moon22 · 26/11/2021 00:49

I have never heard of this or anyone doing this.. I'm partial to the odd hot choc but never considered a station for it! Do you do this in your house?? There's 2 of us in my house.. would be hillarious if my partner came home to a full on hot chocolate experience!!! He would think I'd lost the plot entirely!!

msbevvy · 26/11/2021 00:51

A hot chocolate station is for life. Not just for Christmas.

I’m doing a big family dinner and trying to think of nice things for the kids as the adults will be well catered for!

Whatwouldnanado · 26/11/2021 02:16

A local cafe was offering real whipped cream (more substantial than the aerosol sort) topped with a choice of chopped up Crunchie, mint Aero, Twirl or chocolate flake. Gold sprinkles too.

@ParadiseLaundry have a look on eBay for a second hand velvetiser!

MrsHookey · 26/11/2021 03:30

I have made the hot chocolate as normal and stuck it in the slow cooker to keep warm. It was very handy with a soup ladle.

Yogaandcocoa · 26/11/2021 04:35

If you like hot chocolate I recommend the velvetiser or some kind of milk frother

Welcometothejingles · 26/11/2021 04:59

Great idea for our winter celebrations, we've got a few family birthdays and anniversaries soon.

MimiDaisy11 · 26/11/2021 05:02

Sounds fun!

HeronLanyon · 26/11/2021 05:26

I too have never heard of a ‘station’ for hot chocolate. Beginning to get the picture but spent some time thinking this was about a chocolate fountain!
Hope it is a success.

Surely its an everyday cupboard item- cant people just help themselves whenever they want one all year round?

Do you all have a toast and pasta station as well?

SpangoDweller · 26/11/2021 06:05

Oh hush @HolidayTime2021, it’s a nice thing for the Christmas season. A more family-friendly version of a sherry table.

Newrunner29 · 26/11/2021 07:24

I use my milk frother (my best purchase in the first lockdown! ) to do my hot chocolate and its amazing, much cheaper version than the hotel chocolat velvetiser

Missrabbitt · 26/11/2021 07:30

My favourite hot chocolate is 4 Lindt balls melted into a mug of hot milk.

Test the marshmallows first. Some don’t melt very nicely.

ChakaFridaMendips · 26/11/2021 07:34

Some of the oversize mugs from the 90s.

Controversially - I’d have some instant chai lattes too.

😂 same....! My kids are older now, so obviously I am too, but it really struck me how many more 'extras' have been added to the whole Christmas thing (like Elf on a shelf, Christmas Eve boxes, special activities, etc)

A Hot Chocolate Station sounds so delicious and a lovely birthday/Christmas treat.

I am amazed and a bit in awe of people who (a) have the time and energy and (b) can afford all the extra bits and (c) are creative enough to carry them out. And actually (D) have the type of family that will appreciate it all!

We had amazing christmases when I was young (in the 70s) and also when mine were young but it was also quite stressful/busy without all the current 'extras'. My 70s childhood Christmas was literally a paper advent calendar, a tree, a stocking, presents and meal. It was a 2/3 day 'thing' - no huge build up but still felt really magical.

I did the same for mine, but added a Christmas Eve activity, 2 trees!, some garlands, candles, twinkly lights - that kind of thing. Oh and a Santa visit a few days before (which always had to be booked in the March before). Celebrating was stretched out until NYD.

Now it seems to be almost all of December and some of November.

I'm not criticising at all, please don't think that, it's just that I've found now mine are adults I'm 'out of the loop' about the way things are sometimes done now. Halloween is a much bigger thing too. And Easter I guess.

I can't decide if I wish I had little ones again and could do lots of these extras, or am thankful that I don't have to worry about them!

I really hope that the families of everyone doing all the work towards it appreciate the effort, love and time that's gone in to it.

521Jeanie · 26/11/2021 08:41

God lord, precisely how big is your kitchen, much hot chocolate are you going to drink over the next six weeks, and do you know how much sugar is in it?!

Lemonsandlemonade · 26/11/2021 08:48

Have done that in work before now as a Christmas treat for the children. It goes down very well. Sadly have no pictures.

treesandweeds · 26/11/2021 09:03

What kind of hot chocolate do you make? and with milk or hot water. ready made or with cocoa?

CottonSock · 26/11/2021 09:05

I was going to say the same as @521Jeanie. How often do you actually drink it? If I had hot chocolate once a week even I'd be fatter than I already am. Plus my house would have to sacrifice something like the microwave or fridge to make space!

Icewiththat · 26/11/2021 09:19

After eight chunks or mini Terrys orange pieces are a must to balance precariously on top of the cream!!

languagelover96 · 26/11/2021 09:41

Sounds like a novel idea. Tesco have some nice ginger bread men in at the moment. You also could do a cake bar etc as well.
