Advent calendars: Which ones are people in your family having this year?

I don't bother, and the DC are now late teens/early 20s, but up til last year they've always had an advent calendar, ranging from playmobile to tealight candles to bog standard cadburys chocolate calendar for 99p. Neither of them are very bothered by them now, but I still like to look out for something they might find interesting.

This year I've got DD2 who is still at home a herbal tea calendar as she likes a cup after college and it comes with 24 different flavours.

My friend bought me a hotel chocolat one. It feels very indulgent. I usually get a Cadbury one!

JustJoinedRightNow · 24/11/2021 10:07

DS10 has a roblox one, and DS 8 has the Lego marvel one. I am hoping for the Cath Kidston one for my birthday in early December - I’ve dropped a fair few hints. DH isn’t bothered at all so I never get him one.

Last year we were like the PP above whose advent calendar situation was out of control. They each had a lego Star Wars one, I had a minecraft one, a friend bought them each a Bluey chocolate one, and we had a cardboard one too.

I love Christmas and the advent calendars are a big part of our tradition.

Well...

Youngest two have a smiggle and a tinc.

Eldest two have ones I am putting together on the themes of handmade/sustainable and football (hard work, do not recommend).

I have a wax melt one (small business run by autistic man and his family), and a Paperchase one for work (I WFH, hoping it will help with motivation). DH has the Playmobil BTTF 3 calendar, and we are sharing a Walker's Shortbread.

This is entirely my own fault by starting DD on a Playmobil calendar when she was 1 because I love Playmobil. If the little ones start asking for bespoke I won't be able to handle it!

Love an advent calendar in this house…..

DD15 has the pretty little thing beauty one
Dd10 has a mini squishie one (arrived bashed from Aliexpress but was only £8) and so I also grabbed her last years Tinc one when that was on offer for £7 so she should be happy

We’ve all got a Cadbury choc one Grin

Last few years I’ve bought dh the Virgin wines one which he loved but cutting down so just bought him a box of 6 bottles of Malbec this year instead and I’ve gone without my hot choc/tea one too and just had a couple of bottles of gin Shock

I like to keep it simple and just do the chocolate ones.

DD has a Bluey one, DH and I are sharing a Cadbury one. I haven't tried any of the Bluey chocs, because I can't think of anything more cruel than stealing a small child's advent chocolate, but I have it on good authority from DD that they are delicious.

Have you started on them already?! Grin
SimpsonsXmasBoogie · 24/11/2021 11:07

We let DD have one yesterday... She saw me unpacking the shopping and it got heated. I have learned my lesson and will be more discreet next year.

Not started on ours! I'm going to let DD have our Dec 1st one to replace the one she ate. I know this isn't exactly a great lesson but it's basically Christmas now and I can't be bothered with the tantrums. Chocolate for all!

EdinaMonsoon · 24/11/2021 11:17

DC late teens/early 20’s: Lindt chocolate. Always used to be Lego or Playmobil.
DH: Still undecided…maybe something tea related as he really embraced daily afternoon tea when wfh & now back at work might be a nice reminder.
Me: Liberty traditional card calendar with images behind each window. I love old fashioned advent calendars 😊

17caterpillars1mouse · 24/11/2021 11:20

I have the Holland and Barrett beauty one and a KitKat one

DD19 has bought herself the ASOS beauty one. For a chocolate one I have got her the Hogwarts express from M&S.
DD15 chose a Nivea one and for chocolate I have got her the Lindt Teddy bear calendar.
DD19 has bought chocolate ones for me and DH ☺

YouBelongHere · 24/11/2021 12:54

I've got a 'The Snowman' themed one. It's my favourite Christmas movie and I saw the advent calendar last October and decided I'd buy it closer to Christmas. Couldn't bloody find it anywhere after spotting it that first time!

This year I spotted it in Home Bargains in September and snapped it up - glad I did because the same thing has happened again this year and I haven't spotted it anywhere since!

ShortColdandGrey · 24/11/2021 13:39

DD 5 would like a cheese one the same one her uncle bought her last year. We have a fabric one that my DM made years ago and my DH fills that with sweets that he forgets to eat. I really miss the After Eight one that Tesco used to sell. Amazon have it on at a ridiculous price so I will have to pick something else. Might get a Maltesers Truffle one or a kinder one Smile

IDontKnowWhatYouMean · 24/11/2021 13:50

I have the M&S beauty advent, DH has the Degustabox (it is HUGE, he doesn't know he's getting it yet, normally doesn't get an advent unless I pick up a cheapie when they are reduced).
For the grown-up DS I fill previous beauty advents with lots of chocolates (foil wrapped snowballs and sprouts/chocolate lollies/lindor). I LOVE making their advents and I can't wait for 1 December :)

Highfivemum · 24/11/2021 18:25

Playmobil ones seems to be a tradition in our house and also a choc one. Always have to get up earlier from 1 dec to open them.

SomewhereEast · 24/11/2021 21:10

DH & I don't bother, but the DCs always got a Lego one each which they really love. I have also been known to buy one for the cat Blush

TheBestSpoon · 24/11/2021 21:12

Toddler DS has a sticker one that is Santa's workshop and each day is a different present / elf etc to stick on. Last year, he had a similar sticker one that was a nativity scene. Hoping to resist the siren lure of the chocolate for another couple of years, but guess we'll see how we go!

ChristmasEvieNight · 25/11/2021 06:26

DD has the Wooden figure Peter Rabbit one and a picture one from my DM. We have a fabric calendar I fill each years with quality chocolate for DH. I have from last year a house one where you add a different figure each day. And I also got the Nutcracker one from Jojo Mama for a future year as I couldn't resists.

colourfulpuddles · 25/11/2021 06:29

My almost one year is getting a Disney Princess storybook advent calendar while me and DH are having Cadbury chocolate ones.

Fairnair · 25/11/2021 10:29

This year I have the Crochet Society advent calendar for myself (husband bought it me as a Christmas present, as it’s not cheap). I have got husband a Bonne Maman jam one, and a Malteser choc one, which was £2 in local Co-op.

MammaGnomes · 25/11/2021 18:29

I've treated myself to a twinings tea one this year. I don't usually bother so I'm very excited to join in

dd has a fidget one and dp has a baileys 12 days of Xmas one. I was eyeing it up for his November birthday but it was ££ then saw it reduced on the BF deals today so snapped it up. He loves a sneaky baileys whilst he's cooking tea in December so will love this!

JumperandJacket · 25/11/2021 18:31

Me- a picture one
DS- Tony’s chocolonely
DD- gems and crystals from Etsy.
