Digital camera for 9 year old - any recommendations?

Can anyone recommend a reasonably cheap (maybe £40-ish or below) digital camera that's easy enough for a 9 year old to use?

He's very techy so I think would be fine with a fairly basic regular/adults camera rather than one of the ones aimed at little kids - although I'd prefer not to spend too much in case if gets dropped or lost.

As you’ve said he’s a bit ‘techie’ I would avoid so called ‘child’s’ cameras and paying over the odds for a gimmicky colour and potentially limited specifications.

There will be quite a choice of general ‘adult’ compact cameras at the £40-£50 range, but you should find some up to £40.
Compact cameras are very ‘click and go’, but they have the option to switch from fully automatic to him choosing his own settings and professing his skills
It’s not really the ‘modern’ thing, and this will be hard to find on a compact camera, but if there is a viewfinder as well as a back display then he can get into the habit of using that. It not only concentrates the eye on what the camera can see but it gives the best steady ‘hold’ of a camera rather than holding it up in front of you.
That can wait until the future when (or if) he progresses to ‘better’ cameras

Don’t forget to factor in adding a memory card, and batteries (ideally a camera with its own rechargeable battery included, but not a fixed integrated battery)

I asked this last year - and someone recommended the Praktica PRA099 Luxmedia WP240 Compact Camera. I bought it and it’s great! My 9yo loved it, it’s easy to use and is still taking good photos a year later.
