Gift for my sister who has different taste to me

Wise Christmas fans, I’d like to get my sister something she’ll love but she is very stylish in a sets her own trends way. I’m much more middle of the road and can’t predict her taste. As a guide she just bought herself this:

www.oliverbonas.com/homeware/pink-ceramic-gluggle-jug-medium-313298?gclid=CjwKCAiA1uKMBhAGEiwAxzvX9zWvXjEuzKaSRfaUz_hPwZup8A6Ip4O2DjjieBzlSBffRBkdtDJwPBoCq3sQAvD_BwE#selection.color=2005&selection.size=2076

Not my kind of thing at all. Budget is £30-50. I’m thinking something for the home but can’t be too practical.

Any suggestions hugely appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Gosh. That is horrible

I’m not sure I can suggest anything either but Anthropologie might be a good place to look.

HerbivorousRex · 20/11/2021 12:55

If she has quite specific taste then I’d probably err on the safer side.
Maybe a hand thrown and hand painted planter like this:
www.motionsofclay.co.uk/product-page/marbled-porcelain-sky-blue-white-large with a fern/succulent/peace lily in it.

Or one of the more abstract mugs www.motionsofclay.co.uk/product-page/matte-blue-mug with a nice version of her favourite hot drink (e.g. Fortnum and Mason tea, Monmouth coffee, Knoops hot chocolate).

Oliver Bonas voucher?
Taste is super subjective and a bit of a minefield - you have my sympathy!!

LynetteScavo · 20/11/2021 13:00

It's not horrible! I have one (not that colour but I like the pink)

Some Oliver Bonas jewellery?

Something from Etsy?

LynetteScavo · 20/11/2021 13:09

I think she'd like a match striker

Jumpingintochristmas · 20/11/2021 13:48

Taste is so subjective - I’m guessing a voucher won’t cut it?

Nice gifts I would appreciate:
Champagne saucers
Candle
Vase
Print

Oliver Bonas, Not on the High Street, Anthropologie, Time and Tide are my go to for gifts.

minipie · 20/11/2021 15:03

Sorry LynetteScavo 😳😬

Taste is very subjective!!

WildStallyn · 20/11/2021 15:06

What about a nice plant? A cactus or succulent? (If she has pets just check that what you choose isn't toxic to them).

FlowerArranger · 20/11/2021 15:09

Guessing other people's taste is largely pointless. Just give her a hamper of stuff she likes or a bottle of her favourite perfume.

LateMumma · 20/11/2021 15:12

Rockett St George do lovely things, as does Courthouse Interiors (dusters and kimonos 😍) and Abigail Aherne. Good luck!

DriftingBlue · 20/11/2021 15:17

It’s so hard to know what eclectic pieces will catch even your own eye. Maybe something practical for the kitchen, but with a bit of flair?

SlipperTripper · 20/11/2021 15:22

Have a look at Wolf and Badger? They have some quirky bits

I have one too (was a gift), but we love it...

Unique fruit bowl, quirky biscuit barrel, etc, I love those kind of stand alone items

Midlifemission · 20/11/2021 18:49

A design classic like this - if it's from somewhere like JL she can discreetly exchange it if not her taste !

The exact same fish jug was £15 in one of the supermarkets. Same colour. I know as I took a pic of it to show my mum as we had a blue one back in the 80's (where they should've stayed)

lightisnotwhite · 20/11/2021 19:10

I was going to suggest Wolf and Badger. They do these tasteful slippers…..lobster

BeaLola · 20/11/2021 19:14

Very hard as it is so personal

Assuming a gift rather than a voucher I would steer to Anthropologie or Etsy

Or if she likes oranges Alessi do a lovely peeler thing - it's hard to describe but I as bought one and love it

Is she girly ? A top nail varnish or the Neom mini pod ?

Space masks for relaxing
Jessica Flint silk scarf

Or very quirky - decoupage item- I bought a lovely coaster and done soaps from this company for a friend and she allowed them

BeaLola · 20/11/2021 19:16

That should re as "she loved them "Smile

nannybeach · 20/11/2021 19:18

My late parents had that fish in the 60s in green
Fruit bowl, you don't have to put fruit in it. Flowers, salad.

wouldthatbeworse · 20/11/2021 19:26

Thank you everyone. There are some great suggestions. But I guess the thing with bold pieces is that she would love or hate them. We get on. I’ll make a couple of suggestions. I like the idea of a planter. She might prefer the lobster slippers. Better something she likes even if it isn’t a surprise.
