Is it worth getting a Fitbit if you use an iPhone?

Just that really.

DD has mentioned she'd like a fitness tracker. I'd like to get a decent one, but my budget is £100 for this particular present (or £200 if I don't also get the earphones I was planning), which obviously falls way short of the price of an Apple watch. I've read somewhere that you only have access to limited functions when pairing a Fitbit with an iPhone. As an Android user who's never owned a fitness tracker or smart watch, I feel a little lost.

Can anyone give any advice?

I have a Fitbit and an iPhone and it's fine, have a look round some come with a years free premium membership. Otherwise that's £9:99 I think a month, you need that to access all the features

Thank you!

Agree I have Fitbit and iPhone and it's fine!

Fitbit 5 came with free premium membership a few months ago

You can get an Apple Watch SE for £249. I don’t know if that’s way outside your budget but it might be an option if you preferred getting all apple

I’ve got a Fitbit and an iPhone and it’s great.

You can get a versa 2 for £99 at the moment and it's fab.
Dd has an series 3 Apple watch we bought used but excellent condition for £60, might be worth a look on Facebook?

PickupaPenguin8 · 20/11/2021 23:26

I want to get one as a present but I don’t know anything about them. What is the membership for? The person I am buying it for has got into running . He has an old iPhone. Would it be useful do you think? What type should I buy? (Fitbit)

Chocolateteabag · 21/11/2021 08:26

@PickupaPenguin8 - have you looked at Garmin watches for your runner? They pair with iPhones so you can track runs on Strava etc
Most runners wear them/Apple watches rather than fit bits

There are some threads on the exercise board about them but there will be lots on off for Black Friday

I have an iPhone and had a Fitbit first - then got an I watch - it's a lot better with the Iwatch although i prefer some of the functions of the Fitbit like the sleep tracking and syncing to a Fitbit weighing scales

Aderyn21 · 21/11/2021 08:33

I’d avoid series 3. I was looking at one for dd and a sales assistant said that because it’s an old model she isn’t sure how long apple will continue to support it with software updates.

I use a Fitbit and an iPhone and it works great!

I wouldn’t want an Apple Watch because I know I would smash or scratch the screen. Dh has one and I find it really annoying as it interrupts conversations and speaks to him (“I’m sorry I doesn’t catch that”).

YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake · 21/11/2021 13:08

I would go with a Fitbit versa, I had one before I got an Apple Watch and they are really good. Will show phone notifications as well as tracking steps, heart rate, sleep. The charge generally lasts a few days as well.

Franticbutterfly · 21/11/2021 15:31

I had a FitBit and an iPhone for years up until this month when I got an Apple Watch. I don't find the Apple Watch gives me any more information (that I use) than my Charge 4 did. In fact the VO2 max on the Fitbit is better imho.

TeaSoakedDisasterMagnet · 21/11/2021 15:35

I had a versa 2 for a while with my iPhone, but I broke it by accident. It worked absolutely fine with iPhone.

I was gifted an Apple Watch for my birthday after I broke my Fitbit, and actually I found the Fitbit better for general health monitoring. My Apple Watch is far more app heavy and the fitness and health monitors are spread across different apps. Fitbit it’s all in one place that happens to also allow you to see messages and calls. The battery on Fitbit is also tons better, lasts 2-3x as long.

I love mine! I do the most walking when I can’t have my phone on me (teacher). It also keeps me away from the phone distractions as it has the time etc. I also really like the sleep tracker

CraftyGin · 21/11/2021 20:21

When I was thinking of getting a decent Fitbit, I ended up getting an Apple watch - I got an older version Apple watch (v1 when v3 was about to come out) and it really wasn't a lot more than a high end Fitbit, but with a lot more functionality. It still works fine 6+ years on.
