We are not close but she is the mother of my partner and I would like to get her something nice. She is interested in knitting, sweet foods, no candles/ smellies etc.
A hamper perhaps?

Time.

I was going to say this. Is there somewhere she would like to go that she can't easily get to now? A visit to a place she used to live, or a historic town with interesting shops and a really good lunch or afternoon tea?

A bloom and wild subscription so they have lovely flowers every month?

Yarn.

My mother is 90 and doesn't much like 'old lady' presents . her words. Things that have been a success . theatre tickets for a matinee performance with me. She gets too tired for evening performances but loves a bit of grown up mother and daughter time. Afternoon tea or lunch out vouchers. A cashmere or other jumper in a fairly bright colour. Tickets for a show/ music event shown by satellite at the local cinema. Full length quilted dressing gown but needs to be for short person so she doesn't trip over it. She is quite fussy and not all e of my presents always hit the spot but these are the most successful. One I haven't tried but I am thinking of is a years flower subscription with a fresh bunch delivered on the same date every month for a year. 😀

Could you plan a really special day out for her and treat her to a lovely pub lunch and tickets to go somewhere that would interest her? Then she gets the gift and you all get to spend some lovely time together. Otherwise, a subscription for something? Maybe a knitting magazine subscription or one of those ones where they send you fancy coffee or something every month?

If she likes sweet foods then I reckon PP's idea of an afternoon tea is a winner 😁

My mum is that age and I am getting her books, hand soap (she doesn't like smellies either but does like nice liquid soap) and a pair of boots (she picked those).

I bought my 86yr old grandmother a flower subscription last Christmas. I picked monthly delivery for 3 months and she loved it. She also has everything and loves knitting but arthritis/glaucoma has put a stop to that. Previous Christmas' I've bought her a lovely knitting bag and a sewing box from cath kidston.

An Amazon Alexa or echo dot so she can play the radio and you can connect with her through it.

Echoing others quality time, a nice meal or weekend break with the family.

It's a good idea but she'd need an internet connection or some way of accessing it?
