How much do you spend on nieces nephews when you have a lot of them?

Thetrainisinthestation · 16/11/2021 12:35

We have 8 nieces and nephews combined.
I’d love to splash out on all of them but can’t really afford to do that.

Spending £15-20 seems affordable just about but is that stingy?

I’ve mostly had a ceiling of about a tenner, plus or minus a bit if there’s something I’ve seen they’ll really like.

dementedpixie · 16/11/2021 12:37

We don't buy for ours now. Mutual agreement between all the families. £15/20 sounds fine

TurnUpTurnip · 16/11/2021 12:41

Sounds fine, I have 4 kids and my sister spent about that amount on them.

MadeForThis · 16/11/2021 12:47

£10-£15. 6 kids to buy for.

CoffeeChocolateWine · 16/11/2021 12:54

I have 6 nieces aged between 4 and 16. My siblings and I agreed a long time ago that it would be just token £5 gifts at Christmas…sometimes a couple of quid more. We spend more on birthdays.

EnrouteNOTonroute · 16/11/2021 12:55

We have 9 too. £15-20 each and we don’t buy for adults

thaegumathteth · 16/11/2021 12:56

I have 6 ages 8-15. Spend £25-30 each

FireworkParrot · 16/11/2021 13:01

We have 8 neices and nephews between the ages of 1 and 13. Budget of £10ish each so yours sounds plenty, we also agreed a couple of years ago not to buy for the adults that have children and just buy for their DC.

The older ones get a selection box with a tenner stuck to it and seem happy enough with that to be honest.

The younger ones usually get a book each and some chocolate coins.

SugarlumpsesBumpses · 16/11/2021 13:05

Around £15 per child as we have like 9/10!

WhatsMyNameGonnaBeNow · 16/11/2021 13:23

No it’s not stingy, you can get a perfectly nice gift with that budget.

Twelve DNs here and £30-£40 per child spend. While we can afford it and know it’s appreciated, it does add up. When the first couple of DNs came along I was mortgage/child free so tended to be generous and didn’t really think ahead. Now that there are so many I’m kind of sorry I didn’t set a budget of £20 and stick with it! I am adamant we stop as each child reaches 18 though.

Pontypandytaxpayer · 16/11/2021 13:25

We have 5 to buy for and spend £20-£25 on each. We do a Secret Santa for the adults as there are loads of us and have a £30 limit on that.

Tamtam86 · 16/11/2021 13:28

We have 8 nieces and nephews too and spend around £15-20 on each, so that sounds about right to me!

Sprostongreen21 · 16/11/2021 13:29

I’ve 5 plus 3 god children and a great nephews . 15-20 is where I sit for gifts.it’s a decent amount if they want cash and I can usually buy a decent enough gift with that. I never got anything from my aunties/uncles.

DockOTheBay · 16/11/2021 13:29

We spend £20
I usually try and shop around to get good deals so that the value of what they get is actually more than £20

Johnny26 · 16/11/2021 13:30

I have a look around but kids want cash so usually try 20 for each girl and a selection box but hopefully

User4272946730203 · 16/11/2021 13:33

That sounds absolutely fine to me. I only have one and I spend about £30 on him, so your plan sounds very generous.

MegaClutterSlut · 16/11/2021 13:42

I have 7 nieces/nephews and spend £20 on each. That's more than enough when you have a large family imo

AliceMcK · 16/11/2021 13:52

£20 each

PookieNoodlinPearlyGates · 16/11/2021 14:00

We have 23 nieces and nephews between us plus one great niece. We don’t buy individual presents we tend to buy a gift the whole family can enjoy like games, or bowling/cinema vouchers.

I don’t think £15-20 is stingy at all. Only spend what you can afford.

loudbatperson · 16/11/2021 14:05

We do £25-30 each (we have 13 nieces & nephews in total). However we could easily find cheaper presents they would like for less, however as we can afford a bit more we do.

Our children get a wide range of presents (in terms of value) from aunties & uncles ranging from about £5-£30.

I don't consider any as being stingy. We all have different lifestyles and income.

What is important for our family, is that all presents given and received have some thought and suit the person they are being given to. That matters much more than the cost to us.

Greenmarmalade · 16/11/2021 14:10

£10

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 16/11/2021 14:10

We spend £25-£30 and we have one.

(Well technically we have three but two live in Asia so we buy our DDs a present from them and vice versa).

sleepfortheweek · 16/11/2021 14:16

I have 2 brothers and a sister and between the 4 of us we have 9 children.

This year, we are clubbing to get them one big present from all the aunties and uncles instead of 3 smaller ones.

Budget is £60 per child

DGFB · 16/11/2021 14:20

£30 each but we don’t buy for adults

CinnamonEstella · 16/11/2021 14:21

We have 9 and spend up to £12 on each for Christmas, could be less though.

If giving money to the older ones it's always a £10 note and some sweets.
