How much do you spend on nieces nephews when you have a lot of them?

We have 8 nieces and nephews combined.
I’d love to splash out on all of them but can’t really afford to do that.

Spending £15-20 seems affordable just about but is that stingy?

We do the same as PP we all put €100 onto the pot and then all the nieces and nephews get one present from all of us Auntie's using the money pot. We give the money to my DMum through the year and it keeps it simple and by paying a fiver in every now and then it is affordable

PinkSkirt · 16/11/2021 14:23

I have about 20 kids to buy for.
Most I just get the kids presents.
One relative though expects the same amount spending on them, but they’ll be the first when Others have kids to now say they are only spending on the kids and not the adults.

Stiffcondomhat · 16/11/2021 14:27

I only have a couple but usually spend 15-20, going to try and get that nearer to 10 this year as trying to cut costs. For a recent birthday I got one niece a book for 8 quid that was very well received.
For any over 10 years a tenner in a card is a welcome gift I think.

mogschristmascalamity · 16/11/2021 14:28

10-15 each. Only 2 on my side and 4 on DHs.

AnnaSW1 · 16/11/2021 14:29

We have loads we've always spent £20

autumnalvibes · 16/11/2021 14:35

That's exactly how much I spend. Never thought it was stingy, to be honest thought it was fairly generous! We do also buy for cousin's children too though so have lots of children to buy for.

PeacockF · 16/11/2021 14:36

Usually something about £10 in value from argos 2 for £15, so £7.50 each.

DriftingBlue · 16/11/2021 14:43

We have 5 to buy for and could technically spend more, but we have a similar budget to OP. We keep it reasonable for a few reasons.

  1. in the early days our budget was tighter so we got in the habit,
  2. I just don’t think niece and nephew gifts need to be extravagant. The big gifts tend to come from parents and perhaps from grandparents.
  3. there are other families also buying for nieces and nephews each with their own budget constraints. Keeping it to a reasonable level means no family has to feel pressured to spend more than they can afford.
NortieTortie · 16/11/2021 14:51

We have six and spend around £30 on each.. Babies get £10-15. Feel v guilty as siblings often spend £50+ on mine but I just can't afford it, especially with buying for 9 siblings and in laws.

BonnyEm · 16/11/2021 15:07

I have 19 now! And a great niece too!
Selection boxes for the younger ones
Terry's chocolate orange for the older ones
Ages from 4-21

Equimum · 16/11/2021 16:20

We only have two, but the budget is £15ish.

Tabbypawpaw · 16/11/2021 16:23

11 from age 8-21. We set a limit of £20 each. It used to be £15, not sure why it went up.

Mammma91 · 16/11/2021 16:24

I have 11 nieces and nephews.
£20 each. Maximum. Definitely cannot afford anymore than that, also have 5 birthdays between November and February.

DoctorWhoTardis · 16/11/2021 16:26

We have 4 but only buy for one so £20-25 on her. If I had loads I would only spend £10 odd, it just gets silly money wise otherwise.

sunshineandshowers40 · 16/11/2021 16:27

I have 4 nephews and a niece and spend around £20 on each gift.

ParkheadParadise · 16/11/2021 16:33

I have 20 nieces and nephews DH has 7. I now have 9 great-nieces and nephews.
That's 36 🙈🙈. £20 each but only the ones who don't have kids. I do spend more on birthdays.

Onlyabean · 16/11/2021 16:36

Nieces/nephews at £25 each
Cousins' children at £15 each

Helpstopthepain · 16/11/2021 16:41

£10. We have 11.

You get good at looking for bargain.

TheChosenTwo · 16/11/2021 16:57

Up to £50 per niece/nephew. We have 17, one more due before Christmas so will be 18! Love having big families, all really close apart from 3 nephews living in Aus, we don’t exchange presents because it seemed like a hassle after the first couple of years, then the next year we were going to just transfer money to BIL but he was just going to do the same back so we decided to stop.
Still buy for married nieces/nephews who have their own children! It doesn’t seem to end in our families!!
Whatever you spend, don’t go over budget. I choose something I think they will like and then find something that comes within our budget.

Bexxe · 16/11/2021 17:12

i also have 7 have decided this year to buy them all a perosnalised money box (£9 off etsy) and make my own sweetie christmas bag to give to them which should only cost about 20p each - agreed not to buy for adults.

Pheebs2021 · 17/11/2021 08:49

I budget around £20 each odd year I go a little OTT if I see something perfect in black Friday but try to keep it to the £20.

jendifer · 17/11/2021 08:52

9 aged 3-15. Everyone has an Amazon wish list and you choose stuff off there - we tend to do £20-£30 plus some sweets but if there is only pricey items on the list we share it with other family.

idontlikealdi · 17/11/2021 08:57

£25 each

Pyewackect · 17/11/2021 09:01

Nothing. Their parents earn more than enough and I’m not gonna waste money this year.

sunflowerroses · 17/11/2021 09:13

I have 9. Spend £15-£20 on 6 of them (one side of the family) and £30-£40 on the other three. It was what both families did before my husband and I met and the side that we spend £30-£40 spend a lot more on us as they'd like to.
