What age are Tonies boxes aimed at?

DD is 9; she’s autistic and struggles to fall asleep.

She has an Alexa but audible books can be costly and require a subscription. Would she be too old for a Tonie box or Yoto?

My DD (also 9) uses Cloudaloud and we connect it to a bluetooth speaker in her room at bedtime. She picks a story ahead of time on her tablet or my phone and its so much cheaper than the yoto cards or Tonie figures.

Yoto and tonie are aimed at kids old enough to recognise the pictures/models but not old enough to just read the name on an audio cd. Assuming your daughter has a roughly 9 year old reading age, she is a bit old to need them. They’re a very expensive way to get stories and have a pretty limited range. Much better to find a different setup. Our local library does audio books on cds still for example and they’re really cheap to borrow.

I think she's too old for a Tonies but not a Yoto Mini. You can get make your own cards and put whatever you want on them. So can have whatever content she wants

(I use BorrowBox to borrow audiobooks and put them on a MYO card for example)

Yotos have a much bigger age range and are much more versatile. You can put your own audiobooks on cards but they have a decent range for older kids. You can see them all on the website.

For a 9 year old, I would say a Yoto would be better. There is a much wider range of content-not just stories and songs, but also free radio stations and podcasts. My almost 3 year old can easily put the cards in, but equally her 6 ans 9 year old cousins are happy to play with it too (the 9 year old thinks the Tonies figures/stories are too young for her).

You could also get an Echo dot kids (about £28 atm) with audio books from Amazon, if she prefers older content?
