Christmas movies are on at the moment. You know the ones I mean, person returns from the big city to small home town, which is beautifully decorated, and then realises there's no place like home....

Do these places really exist in America? I'd love to go one year! All snowy and small town shops.

Oh yes, they exist - all over the place, though you may have to put up with fake snow in the south (looking at you, Naples Fl.)

Mention the US and so many think of either the big sights or cities, but small town America still thrives and Main Street is a big part of it

Yes they do! I have family over there and we go for a weekend in Stowe Vermont if there for Christmas. It's like the whole town coordinates it's Christmas decorations - real pine, red bows, so tasteful and snowy.
This is the general store - typical of any New England town.

The Holiday was filmed in Shere and Godalming. Shere is really lovely, Godalming high street a bit blah at the mo but it is pretty!
