They cant read any more, or do craft, or really watch tv. Am at a loss as to what I could buy that wouldn't remind them of everything they can no longer do. very OAP age, female. being deliberately vague in case of relatives 😀

An audible subscription for talking books or extra credits if they already have an account.

Audio books immediately spring to mind

If they have broadband get alexa brilliant for radio

Reader57 · 13/11/2021 13:45

Horrible situation for her to be in but I doubt anything you buy would make it worse by reminding her - I imagine she can think of nothing else. How about a subscription to Audible or similar so she can listen to books etc? There are some amazing recordings out there..

Definitely audible. My dad is blind, has been for 30-odd years, and he loves his Audible subscription - I renew it for him as his Christmas present every year.

My dad listens to the radio a lot, so perhaps invest in a decent DAB radio and preset it with her favourite stations. You can buy little “bump” stickers, as my dad calls them, to put on the buttons so she knows where to press.

Beaten to it - would be my suggestion

Spotify premium so can request whatever she wants

Something beautifully tactile - be it one of those Dunelm Teddy blankets, silk pillowcase, cashmere wrap

And depending on her likes - I am a big perfume lover so I would really love a bottle of my fave perfume - but I understood this wouldn't be for everyone

What other posters have said - my dad loved reading so audible books (didn't know you could get a subscription), the radio, we got him a better one and put stickers on the buttons.
He was registered as blind (tho he had some sight) so got access to RNIB products, with no VAT. Large button telephone, an audio one (can't remember details, quite a long time ago now).
He still liked to go out in good weather but needed a human companion, so made sure he was able to go.
